I have a YouTube Premium subscription, yet I received a message stating that Ad Blockers are not allowed on YouTube. WTF? What am I supposed to do now? I don't watch much YouTube, but I have a low-cost bundle with YouTube Music, which I use the most.
@nixCraft The honest answer is to pack up and leave Youtube entirely - cancel your subscription and move to something like Tidal.
Bugs or not, mistakes or not, Google is making it clear that they won't allow us mortals to use their precious service without getting ads shoved down our throats. There's only one way to convince them otherwise, and that's to hurt their bottom line.
This is the latest #youtube "innovation". #Google with a market cap of $1.7 trillion and $120 billion cash on hand, "needs" to charge for ads on YouTube.
This is, of course, not true. They have more than enough revenue to run YouTube without ads in perpetuity, but they want to please shareholders. The #Peertube community is showing how you can distribute the costs of hosting content as well. If you don't support Google's continued monetization of monopolized video...vote with your feet.
Online ads are essentially unregulated. They mislead, misdirect, and lie They sell counterfeit drugs, advertise fake apps and cover your screen. They consume bandwidth (that you pay for), and can be a delivery agent for malware. They track your behaviour and invade your privacy to sell you stuff you don't need or want. Worse, they often do it by making you feel bad about yourself.

I just had an ad on youtube manage to sneak past both noscript AND ublock origin, looks like they're testing out some new methods to bypass ad-blockers....thankfully about half the channels I follow now also post on other sites but I really wish others would follow, if made to pick between watching ads and not watching any of the content I'll choose to just not watch anything any time.
