shoutout to adnausem an #adblocker that also sends bs data to the ads to cost them money as well. you can set exceptions for sites that have respectable ad terms but I dont >:) i just donate directly to sites that need it!!
I browse in permanent private mode, so I've been using Mull with uBlock Origin for quite some time now and really liked it. It even blocked cookie consent dialogs....
listening to the #donut#econ book by Kate Raworth that's been on my list for so long. In the intro, she identifies four economic spheres, the home, the market, the commons, and the state. I think these are too concrete. Math requires the greatest abstraction possible. I have identified three paradigms that could be modeled as complementary currencies. The first is what we've got in #capitalism: ① scarcity-based, incl fiat, cryptocurrency, & rare fungibles like gold.
the #Marketing industry should run entirely on attention and time economics. That's why #advertising is broken, hence the eternal #adblock conflict, the difficulty of #journalism and information work to monetize, and why we are all overloaded all the time. We can't manage it because we don't have a currency with which to model our plans.
Por puntualizar. No me refiero arriba a Adblock (que sé que acepta pagos de anunciantes y que te los puede colar) sino a Adblocker Ultimate, que presume precisamente de lo contrario:
Completely remove ALL ads. No “acceptable” ads or whitelisted advertisers allowed. This free extensions also helps block trackers and malware.
If your website has a popup asking me to disable my #Adblock but still has the option to continue using it, I disable my Adblock.
If the popup is intentionally blocking my usage until I disable my adblock and doesn’t give me the option, then I find a different site that has what I need or move on entirely.
One thing I don't see people talking about often is that Ad Blocking can be an accessibility issue.
Ads that flash = migraine triggers
Brightly coloured ads in the sidebar = can be so distracting to those of us with ADHD;
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome;
Brain fog;
Mental exhaustion
that reading the text of the article can be impossible.
Another reason to use #Firefox: #Google is proposing to add "Web Environment Integrity" to #Chrome, which basically means guaranteeing that your #Browser will not modify the websites you are looking at.
In other words: The ultimate weapon against #AdBlock, kind of like copy protection (#DRM) and #AntiCheat in one, but for the #web.
In other news, I'm currently recovering from this mild heart attack of suddenly experiencing ads on YouTube for the first time in probably 10+ years. 😵
Let's get this out of the way: they give a number of #reasons why #webservers "might wish" to establish that a web #client is running on a "#trusted" software stack, including things like "make sure other game players aren't cheating" and "ensure I'm talking to another human".
Using #Google as an example, Google #Chrome will probably only #trust the attestation of ... Google Web Environment Integrity Attestation! Well, plus Microsoft's and Apple's, so it isn't too obviously an anti-competitive #cartel. Which it would be, of course.
Do you think those attestation #services are going to give a "#trusted" #rating to any #browser that wants one? Do you think they'll give it to any browser with an ad-blocker?
What to use as a browser on Android with a good adblocker?
