Here is an update about #YouTube#AdBlock slow downs. It was not YouTube’s fault it was certain AdBlockers if you used #ublockorigin you were not affected. It was a bug in AdBlock Plus and related extensions with their conversion to the new requirements to update extensions to the latest standard that Google is forcing. They introduced a bug 🐞 which caused this issue.
I’m hearing a lot about websites like netflix and YouTube crippling their performance in some way if you’re using firefox instead of chrome/a smart TV...
I’m studying for my Network+ (should have had it a long time ago), and watching a #youtube live stream with a study group. Very laggy and buffering events, even when turning my resolution down to 360p.
I suspected I was being throttled because I was using #Firefox and uBlock.
I opened up #Chrome (no #adblock is added), and watched the same stream. No glitches at all.
Not surprised but quite annoying of course.
I’m going to try a useragent addon and see if it helps.
I wonder if this is more impactful to Chrome/Chromium based browsers? This is probably a good reason for me to start utilizing some of the Fediverse video streaming platforms
I knew #Plex sends a lot of analytics from me to their servers, but I was not expecting analytics.plex.tv to be number one in the list of blocked requests.
Another surprise was 287 (for now) requests blocked to logs.netfix.com. Why it's a surprise? We are not using #Netflix. I have it pre-installed on my TV but not even logged in there. That's some crazy shit.
#Privacy tip, for those wanting to purge big social media as much as you can. On #Android , you can set your #private#DNS to "extended.dns.mullvad.net" to add an DNS filter that blocks those domains. Of course it has #AdBlock, tracker, and malware blocking as well on top of it, so it's just safer in general.
#Mullvad 's DNS service is awesome, and you can basically set it up for any device! I have it set up on my #Linux workstations, and even my router as well.
I learned you can set custom filters in uBlockOrigin (you use an ad blocker, RIGHT?) to also block domains you don't want to see in search results. Total game changer.
This tool will help you build the rules to filter the domains you want to filter (and you can even subscribe to it so you can easily add over time instead of copy/pasting!)
I realized in therapy today that the ads I'm getting on #Youtube are actually bad for my #MentalHealth... Any advice for working #adblock software for both Mac and Android? I know Google has been cracking down some.
#Sony removed content that people paid for in order to watch it due to "licensing issues". Here Louis does an in depth and very good explanation of what #piracy means for you after getting screwed over by these companies that have the ability to steal what you pay for, even though they're the ones who say that piracy is stealing.
Would changing useragent to chrome cause me problems?
