Upcoming changes by large email providers will potentially make getting to people’s inboxes trickier for small businesses - we discuss options in this article

"We and our 756 partners care about your privacy" - no, no you don't. Well OK maybe you do... but only to make money off selling us crap we don't need.

Simplified.
Here it means not obvious. See that "your" in image 2? That means a website you own, not a project you are doing. You only find that out by going through the full contract with #adobe #fonts By using it on a client project you leave them and yourself open to potential fees.

Text from website says: Website Publishing. Create a Web Project to add any font from our service to your website

intentionwebdesign,

@ronanmcd Good catch - moved away from Adobe Fonts when they snuck that change in

intentionwebdesign,

@ronanmcd Same, wondering if they are/were hoping to catch people out and fine them

"Our service makes things easy"
Uh huh :)

"It's built to solve your problem"
Uh huh! :D

"It's so simple to theme, using Tailwind"

closes tab

intentionwebdesign,

@mattwilcox Tailwind really is a triumph of marketing, selling us CSS classes when Bootstrap etc are free

PSA: just announced they're changing their privacy policy to default all of your account info, who you support, etc. to public. You need to go into the settings and disable that. (Check the two toggles at the bottom of the Settings page to off.)

And then send Patreon a nasty letter, because default-open is just a stupid model to begin with, period.

intentionwebdesign,

@Crell Thanks, done. What on earth are Patreon thinking?!

@ronanmcd@mastodon.green avatar

I just finished reading a graphic novel I got from the library for my sons (pre- and mid-teens). It’s an excellent way of bringing the reality of #climateChange to the fore, showing results on a personal level. More than that, it’s just a beautiful book.

intentionwebdesign,

@ronanmcd Some beautiful artwork in there, thanks for the share

Why must every company stray from presenting a user-chosen interest list, displayed in reverse chronological order - which worked for everyone, happily, for years. And force everyone into "algo timelines".

No, this is absolute rubbish, GitHub.

https://github.com/orgs/community/discussions/65343

intentionwebdesign,

@mattwilcox Surprised they didn't cram in mention of AI too. Wonder if you can customise it back to how it was? ✨

I find it weird that the internet generation: the people that prefer emails over meetings, texts over phone calls, are the ones producing tutorials and lessons in video only format.

We all know that we prefer text because it's adaptive to your own speed of consumption; is searchable; is archivable.

So why is that being tossed away for tutorials? I get that for some video is better, but video only? It's such a poor format "I remember this said something I want to reference" scrub around

intentionwebdesign,

@mattwilcox Compassionate me thinks it might be better for some learning styles, dyslexic folks etc. Cynical me reckons it's all about ad revenue...

Any recommends on SMTP services & plugins for WordPress that aren't crippled nagware? Tried Brevo and the most popular SMTP plugins yesterday and found it incredibly frustrating!

Ugh. A rubbish morning where despite me calling up and speaking to the bank I’m still not sure if someone stole my credit card details, or if I got semi-successfully scammed by someone pretending to be from my credit card company.

They knew a lot, sounded genuine. But… ugh. Horrible.

Credit card currently cancelled, one bogus transaction declined, one “in pending” which apparently my bank can’t just decline. If it goes through I’ll get a fraud claim form. If not, doesn’t matter. But… ugh.

intentionwebdesign,

@mattwilcox Arg that sucks, hope it all gets sorted soon

I have just remembered why I have been running a very old version of photoshop. Until today. When I updated it. And then less than two hours later…

I forgot this happened frequently. And always when photoshop was open. And it hasn’t in a year or two. Until today.

Adobe software is so so bad.

intentionwebdesign,

@tantramar @mattwilcox Heads up that that technically against the ToS, and why I was finally able to ditch my Adobe plan. Most fonts on there have other sources or very similar free alternatives!

intentionwebdesign,

@tantramar @mattwilcox An agency using Adobe Fonts on client sites - they quietly changed it in 2019 which caught me out. Agreed on not using Google!
I found quite a few webfonts are available direct from the authors via Github etc

intentionwebdesign,

@mattwilcox @tantramar That was a nice added benefit of ditching Adobe Fonts - self hosting improved pagespeed scores. Forgot to mention before - Bunny fonts offer all the Google fonts without the GDPR issues

Hey #WebDev people, you know how there’s installable web apps for optimising svg ( https://svgomg.net ) and images ( https://squoosh.app ) …

Is there anything as good for font conversion? Like a local version of https://transfonter.org ?

intentionwebdesign,

@mattwilcox I don't have any suggestions on a font tool sadly, but thanks for those links!
