I post lots of #gamedev , #privacy , #security and other tech stuff I'm interested in. Just a regular guy getting into the #IT field. Unapologetic #coffee addict.
SSL Labs (https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest) from Qualys used to be a useful HTTPS testing tool. However, it hasn't received significant updates since 2019 and is now holding back HTTPS security. The biggest issue is that many of the tests don't support TLSv1.3 so it penalizes disabling legacy TLSv1.2.
@GrapheneOS tls 1.3 has been along for quite awhile now, there's really no reason why 1.2 should still be enabled out of a few sites required for compatibility imo
It was about time I wrote about my #RSS shenanigans with #FreshRSS and such things. Basically I marked everything as read by mistake and decided to accept it and move on. And add a bunch of new feeds too!
For my tiny blog website,
I blocked most things that could be blocked to prevent my blog from being indexed and scanned.
I "unoptimized" my site for search. I also did not advertise it anywhere else outside of this Mastodon account. At all.
Despite this,
my hosting service sent me an email this month telling me I had over 4000 visits in less than a year! That is truly amazing! I was not expecting that at all from my humble tiny blog 🎉✨
@davidbisset most of my stuff is RSS now, but more sites need to really support it at a standard. It makes them less money, but hopefully they can get over that. I'm hoping #Discourse integrates #ActivityPub more, they have it in the early stages as an extension. There's also the #phpbb forum software that is working on polished Activitypub support as well. So I'm hoping we get the start of a revival of forums in 2024. I already saw momentum with #fedi blogs last year as well.

The #degoogle experience is hard, and definitely something I wouldn't recommend doing all at once. It's best to slowly lean yourself off of #Google apps and find #FOSS#Android app equivalents. The best place to find these is #fdroid . Good luck everyone, and there's no shame in not going 100% degoogle. You've got to make sure your day-to-day bottom line is covered!
@gael@rugk@WeAreFairphone yeah my original degoogle experience was moving to CalyxOS which also had microG. There's also finding app equivalents which is hard, especially when the Google ecosystem tries to lock you in so much. It's definitely a journey that takes a lot longer then a day! Hell, I'm 4 years in and still have a few google services that have been impossible for me to quit. Google Maps is a big one for me.
@governa how did a simple TOTP storing cloud sync app get so big that it needs a company and "restructuring"? What else do they even need to make? Doesn't make any sense to me, I just use Bitwarden for everything.
What prevents activityPub from implementing a “threaded conversation” post type? The visibility would be limited to ONLY people following a parent thread. Let a million conversations flourish, without even one of them flooding our follower’s timelines with our engagements about many interests.
#Privacy tip, for those wanting to purge big social media as much as you can. On #Android , you can set your #private#DNS to "extended.dns.mullvad.net" to add an DNS filter that blocks those domains. Of course it has #AdBlock, tracker, and malware blocking as well on top of it, so it's just safer in general.
#Mullvad 's DNS service is awesome, and you can basically set it up for any device! I have it set up on my #Linux workstations, and even my router as well.
