Mike McCue - Hello Fediverse. I'm posting this tonight from my federated Flipboard profile! We're now testing our #ActivityPub integration starting with my account. Can you actually #access PeerTube #content from other #instances? As a Kbin user, I can see both Lemmy threads and Mastodon microblogs and I know Mastodon users can tag Lemmy (and maybe also Kbin) magazines to make threads there. Is there a way to interact with PeerTube like that?
There is no such thing as "#lawful#access". Encryption is #math. There is no math that the "good guys" can do but which cannot be done by the "bad guys".
Anyone who suggests different is #lying, to #spy on you.
"Access to a free, fast & efficient screen reader has changed my life. Because of its qualities, my computer never crashes; updates are frequent & the software works well. It follows best the evolution of Windows and all software. Updating is fast & easy, it is available in all languages. The provision of add-ons makes it really efficient” – Silvie, France
It’s been 5 months since Australian Story aired an episode on NV Access founders, Mick Curran & Jamie Teh. The first Australian Story episode to be audio described. It was an incredible opportunity to share with a wider audience the importance of NVDA & our overarching message, that everyone deserves equal access to technology.
Everest Team claims to have access to something big and U.S. medical. Reads like a third-party situation and he provides very detailed list of field types.
No proof of claims provided at this point but a few covered entities named. I've emailed one of them already to ask if they are aware of any breach and have reached out to the TA to see if he is willing to reveal a bit more.
@flexghost Zealotry replaces #GOP#Thought and #reason. Extremism is being normalized by a media who sees extremism winning and wants to ensure #access to #power. We’re in deep trouble.
It can't be that a not-so-old car [2007 Corsa D 3-door] can't fit in a older Garage [Built in 1953]...
And that is already one of the smallest #cars in #Germany that isn't a #Smart or "not legally a #car" like the #Aixam#Minauto / #Access which is legally a "cabin scooter" with 4 wheels.
Now OFC #Australia is a different beast and I can understand people in rural parts needing like actual #4WD because they have an "unpaved driveway" longer than the ZIP-Code I live in.
For instance, today NPR has a story about an #UrbanPlanning trend called #15minuteCities —designing cities so that you #access amenities in a short walk, bike ride or trip on public transport. Now there's a #ConspiracyTheory saying that this is a way to restrict people's movement or to trap people in an open-air prison.
Finding #water in many parts of #Kenya is a struggle. The country is in the midst of its worst #drought in decades. #Rivers are drying up & the rainy season …has repeatedly failed to produce significant rainfall. Around the world, #ClimateChange is worsening conditions & limiting water #access, leaving people searching for surprising sources, like #fog & #dew.
Trump continued to #attack#James, #Engoron & the trial itself in posts to his social media platform this morning.
He again suggested that the trial is an attempt to interfere w/ his presidential campaign & complained about the lack of a jury in the trial.
(It is long established that either are issues)
Trump won’t be in court today. He had no legal obligation to attend, & left yesterday, noticeably angry.
The recent news that MoneyDashboard is suddenly shutting down has exposed a gap in the way OpenBanking works. It is simply impossible for a user to get read-only access to their own data without using an aggregator. And there are very few aggregators around.
Why is it impossible for me to get programmatic access to my own data?
There are two interlinked reasons which I'd like to discuss.
OpenBanking is a brilliant idea encoded in an excellent standard wrapped in some very complex processes and with some rather unfair limitations.
OpenBanking presents a standardised API to allow read and write access to a financial account. So I could give a smartphone app read-only access to my credit card and let it automatically tell me when I've spent more than £50 on sausage rolls this week. Or I could add all my bank accounts to one service which would let me see my net worth. Or any of a hundred ideas.
I could also connect my accounts in such a way that when Bank Account A drop below £100, an OpenBanking API request is sent to Bank Account B to transfer some money to A.
But here's the first problem. The only way you can get access to a bank's API is if you have a licence. And you only get a licence if you're a financial institution who can prove that they have robust security controls. Which means that individuals have to go through an aggregator. Or, in OpenBanking terms, an "Account Information Service Provider".
Some OpenBanking providers will let individuals play in a "sandbox" to test out the API. There are no real accounts and no real money, it's just a way to test how the API works.
I can see why that makes sense for write access. You don't want a user's unpatched Raspberry Pi suddenly sending all their money to Russia.
And I can see why that makes sense for organisations which deal with data from multiple people. One leak and everyone is exposed.
But I'm not convinced that it makes sense to deny an individual read-only API access to their own account. Sure, I might accidentally leak my own data - but the same risk exists if I download a PDF statement from my bank.
The second problem is that not every OpenBanking consumer will talk to every OpenBanking provider.
For example, I have an account with Coventry Building society. They have an OpenBanking API which no one uses! They're not the largest financial institution in the UK, but have a fair few customers. And yet all the OpenBanking apps refuse to work with it.
So even if I did find an aggregator with an API, it may not work with all my financial institutions.
"Hi friends! Today we are launching a project called ✨ Sick Comrade ✨ which is seeking to connect anarcho-sickos and radical crips across the world to build #access oriented #anarchist#community. It is a project for resource sharing, #zine making, comradeship and connection, created from Berlin and radiating everywhere.
Please can you share this message within your networks? We want to reach sickos who were/are/want to be politically engaged but may be excluded/disillusioned/exhausted/resting and to reach beyond the instagram universe and outside of places where crips are already gathering.
It would be great if you can share amongst your networks and mailing lists, whatever the topic you are working on, there are always sickos in every space and group, and every sicko needs a comrade!! Thank you ❤️🩹 We are looking forward to connecting.
#Yelp added a #label to #pregnancy resource centers in #Texas clarifying they “typically provide #limited#medical services & may not have #licensed medical professionals on-site,” acc/to the #lawsuit. #Paxton’s office called that label “misleading & often untrue,” & said Yelp left the label up “until reproached by Attorney General Paxton earlier this year.”
Please order your tests, whether you "have enough" or can afford to purchase them yourself.
Demanding the tests already set aside for you by the federal government proves we still care about the ongoing pandemic.
Show them we know C19 remains a threat. We demand more support.
If you can afford your own tests, please redistribute your allotment to larger families/households. 4 TESTS PER ADDRESS IS NOT ENOUGH. You can also give them to free pantries or directly to your unhoused neighbors.
Please also remember to help your neighbors and loved ones, especially elders, who may not have internet access or who otherwise lack the ability to place their own orders.
No one should miss out on their tests for lack of accessibility.
(A link to this page also has been added to our Linktree for easy remembering and locating.)
Per the page information:
• Limit of one order per residential address
• Your order will include 12 rapid antigen COVID-19 tests with enhanced accessibility for blind or low vision people. www.COVIDTests.gov has more details about at-home tests, including extended shelf life and updated expiration dates)
• Supplies of tests with enhanced accessibility are limited. Only order these tests if you do not have other options for using the standard COVID-19 tests
• Tests require you to use a compatible, Bluetooth-enabled smartphone, as well as download and install an app from the App Store (for iOS) or Google Play (for Android)
• Orders will ship free starting the week of October 2, 2023
Maybe a long shot (is there any Philosophical Underclass equivalent on Mastodon?), but I am looking for an article that seems to have no online presence. Figured it was worth checking here:
