If you want to understand how startups and venture capital work, go to 26:24 on the recording of my talk “Excuse Me, Your Unicorn Keeps Shitting In My Back Yard, Can He Please Not?” from 2016:
U.S. #drones are failing to perform, The #WSJ reports.
Hoping to attract business, U.S. #startups have provided Ukrainian forces with drones. The drones have proven to be high in cost and low quality pushing Ukraine to turn to Chinese products.
Construction is done on Energy Vault's 25MWh gravity battery near Shanghai, which stores energy from wind turbines as big bricks hoisted high into a mammoth structure. Today I joined demo day of the Post-Growth Entrepreneurship Incubator. It is always interesting to learn about alternative business models for startups, and it was great to see the wide diversity in terms of products, regions and founders!

"I don't want to see our fantastic UK tech sector having to sell out to the US or EU to reach the next step. We have a great start-up culture in the UK but that's where it stops. My job is to help remove those barriers and work with the open source community to figure out how we do just that."

This article is both exciting and scary - I'm already cringing at the thought of a16z and the like trying to co-opt the fediverse movement just as they did with crypto and "Web3"... 😬

This is a #lisp machine for network protocols. Initially in pursuit of a social forum focused on link sharing.
as #startups and free projects alike rush to implement some #IETF RFC adding only 'but on the web'. I aim to define a modular protocol server which can support an arbitrary number of network protocols as a network daemon. Our POC in this endeavour will be to build an #NNTP -like protocol daemon which gateways to #IPFS storage. The content held in this system can be consumed by arbitrary clients; a web application presenting #reddit -like services would be just one of many potential clients, although it is likely that Gnus for Emacs will be the first one. https://codeberg.org/fade/callisto
