A #solarpunk future where resilience and stewardship of the ecosphere bring the earth to a new balance.

The lower half of the house is a stout barge constructed of sturdy timbers. Resting on a frame that holds it ot the ground and serves as it's anchorage.

    I basically blocked a guy yesterday, in real life.

    I came back to my car from gathering mussels. And this other guy, fat, walking stick, bucket, big modern pickup - except for the nice vehicle he could have been me from the future, starts braying "are those for me?"

    It is his attempt at a joke, a conversation starter. He repeated it 3 times, increasingly louder. I ignored him. Okay Boomer, I don't have to talk to you if I don't want to (I'm 51 by the way).

    I know it will be me someday...

    @Urban_Hermit I suspect that I know where you were harvesting because I grew up in a town with a historic bayfront and an iconic bridge.

    Can't say I blame you for gray rocking that guy, he sounded like an entitled blowhard.

    Real talk; the Supreme Court hearing on Presidential Immunity is the sort of thing that future historians will describe as an example of the decadence of American politics and the subversion of it's legal system during this era.

    So LLMs are running out of training data, especially data that is untainted by the output of other LLMs.

    This will inevitably lead to human presence being more valuable for it's novelty and educational value.

    laprice,
    @laprice@mastodon.social avatar

    This does not mean that the humans whose person and presentation are being mined to feed the AI are going to be the ones getting paid fair value for their labor.

    But if all of a sudden your AI pal wants you to consent to doing a fulltime livestream; you might want to demand compensation for use of your likeness and behavioral data. Residuals even.

    @peterdutoit dehumidifiers are pretty key.

    The lowest deadliest temperatures happen at high humidities. If you can't lower the temperature you can at least dry the air and make room for sweat.

    Heat pumps are limited in their cooling power but can be used to cool a thermal battery that can act as a heat sink for a fair bit of residential space.

    Surviving killing temperatures for a few days is one thing, but some areas could face 90 days or more of deadly conditions.

    1950s Tom Swift stories.

    I read the hell out of these during 1980s (no Internet!) summer visits to a small town where the best entertainment was the one-room public library and you could check out a book by telling the librarian which cottage you were staying in.
