My husband had to wait for 6 years to capture this view of #TheNeedles.
Taken as the #moon set at 4.30 am last summer. This shot is only possible a couple of times each year. He almost had it in 2016 but it was slightly too breezy and the telephoto lens couldn't keep in focus.
It causes controversy as some think it's fake, I promise you that it is not. It involved much research, persistence and luck with the weather! It's the cover shot on our 2024 calendar #IsleofWight#photography
My main camera system is what's called "medium format'; the sensor is 40x54mm, which corresponds to the "645" format that used 120-type roll film. This is about 2.5 times the area of the standard "full frame" 24x36mm used in 35mm cameras, but only about 1/5th the area of "large format" 4x5 sheet film.
What's the significance of sensor size? Several things...
For my inaugural post, here's #StanLee at his 95th birthday party.
It was held at the same mansion they used for #tonystark in the #Ironman movies- yep, the one they (spoilers) blow to smithereens.
I was his personal photog and the only person with a camera allowed within 50 feet of him. I'll drop some more from this event sometime down the road. #comics#marvel#photography#excelsior
1/ This is the longest exposure I've ever taken: 8 months long! It shows the Sun's path on the sky between Apr 17 - Dec 11 2018, as seen from ESO's Paranal Observatory in #Chile.
This is part of a collaboration with Diego López Calvín, an expert in solarigraphy: https://solarigrafia.com
Diego sent me some of his hand-made #pinhole cameras, which I placed all over Paranal. So what do we see here? See thread below 👇
I've been all digital for over a decade now. I very much admire the work of my chemical photography friends (shoutout to @skinnylatte ), but modern digital tech and its workflow does a better job for me for what I want to do.
But there's a lot about digital that makes me nervous, particular with regard to preservation. In particular, there's still no good quality non-proprietary general raw conversion and post-processing platform.
Instead of being screamed at for attention by "influencers" (whatever THAT means), here on Mastodon/the fedi, I have great, regular conversations with REAL PEOPLE (that's the key here! REAL people!) about music, TV, science, and tech stuff, and I see art and photos of animals and things in space. It's just nice.
On my way out to go to the tank farm (gas station for you who don’t live in the Arctic) and something stopped me in my tracks. #Nunavut#photography#LandscapePhotography
