First authorb paper out in the wild. It's challenging as an independent researcher, but it can be done. This has been a long time coming. Maybe more in the future

Should show up in a couple other locations as well hopefully (pending reviews)

So what would it take to publish a paper here on mastodon and do public peer review? Just an agreement to use a few hashtags like , and in replies things like , , , ? Some automatically generated web and pdf output summarising the thread? Submission to something like Zenodo to give a DOI? Linking user accounts to orcid to verify identity? Only real problem I see is that even with markdown and LaTeX, Mastodon posts are not well suited for longer posts with multiple figures etc. Maybe fine for short results though?

This week’s #paper is Understanding and Effectively Mitigating Code Review Anxiety by Carol S. Lee and Catherine M. Hicks: https://osf.io/preprints/psyarxiv/8k5a4

They developed a framework and intervention around code review anxiety based on research about social anxiety, ran a study validating it, and created a model of key metrics that influence code review avoidance that was also shown to be helped by a single workshop intervention.

I just found out by accident that the A0 paper format is designed to have a surface area of 1 m²! An A4 sheet is obtained by cutting an A0 sheet in half 4 times, giving a surface area of 1/16 m².

It came up while playing with formulas to price artworks based on their dimensions. I was using sqrt(height * width) to obtain the side length of the equivalent square and I was surprised to get a round number for sqrt(21 * 29.7).

Today I bought my first #fountainpen since decades and it shall be one of my daily drivers from now on.

It's a #Kaweco #Lilliput stainless steel fine.

However, due to my advanced #PIM processes, I rarely write things down on #paper.

I'd love to do so much more if there would be a great #FOSS solution for offline #handwriting #OCR. That would be a great investment by the #stationery industry! 🤔

It still offers better solutions compared to my #Boox #NoteAir #eink tablet.

My Faber Castell pencil, my Fisher space pen and the Lilliput by Kaweco. The latter two are for being available through my trousers pockets while being away from my computer. I use the pencil for short term notes captured on paper.

The second one is a Belgian Secret Stich. This was such a fun one to make - and it feels so professional, too!

When we visited Portland last summer, the only place we went many times was Powell's City of Books. It is the best bookstore in the world. I grabbed an extra bag because I knew I wanted to make a book out of it.

A book project in progress. There is a large paper rectangle with the text "Powell's City of Books" with bok graphic brown paper surface, with crafting tools including a bone folder, utility knife, and sewn binding.
