Residual waste from mushroom cultivation removes pollutants from water
"The substrate effectively decreases concentrations of pesticides and drugs in contaminated water. ..... The results show the potential of the substrate as a promising alternative to current water purification methods."
"While industry claims it could be part of a circular plastics economy, experts say that chemical recycling is extremely damaging to the environment and provides no real benefits."
“Chemical recycling is really an industry ploy to convince the public and policymakers that we don't have to reduce plastic production in order to deal with plastic waste,”
Noticed this folding lounge chair on the side of a hill during a hike. It’s tempting to take it to the dump. On the other hand it’s been part of the eco system for quite some time now. Mosses, fungi, and certainly lots of little critters have homes in the tubes and folds, while pipe slowly rusts and vinyl decays. Does my aesthetic of not liking trash in the woods outweigh the lives it shelters?
Yesterday I found a piece laminate in my basement and decided to build 🛠️ a small box for my stuff. For the box I used only parts I already had ♻️. It's a good project for beginners 👍.
My partner just walked home with this, he made us a garden shelf for the summer. Entirely from pallets he sources from companies around here. Isn't it great?
Cost is the screws, a few euros or so.
Lots of use value renewed for this wood that would otherwise get scrapped.
I have a lot of plants 🍃. So I decided to build a small shelf for them 📐. This is my result from last weekend 🛠️. I used only "old" materials that I already had.
Daffodils preparing to bloom in a few weeks. These are later varieties and they always come later than the little yellow early ones. As "mulch" you see the shredded feed sacks we use as animal bedding and weed control. They are biodegradable and help with carbon sequestration.
Finally, I just wanted to thank you for reading this thread - I've enjoyed learning bookbinding and have enjoyed sharing my projects here on Mastodon with you. I've really appreciated all the encouragement!
Here are a few more projects I've done over the past few months:
