"Thus the power of fungi — to transform, destroy, deconstruct and resurrect — holds an almost sacred allure as industrial modernity falls apart at the seams and we are left to face its mess."
You probably already know this, from food to antibiotics to industrial uses, the humble fungus can do great things.
Now, Australian and Hong Kong scientists have created living mycelial sheets that are fire resistant, making them perfect for use as building materials without negative health impacts.
Will these fungal sheets be in your walls someday soon?

'Beefsteak Fungus'
In the forest again today. No mushrooms, but #mosquitoes of the most aggressive kind! It went so far afterwards that I sprayed my clothes with #mosquitospray because the beasts bit through my trouser legs! I would have liked to have taken a bit more time for this special and rare #fungus. It is edible, as the English name suggests, but because it is rare and the mosquitoes gave me such a hard time, it was left behind.
Because it looks so beautiful, here is another perspective of a #fungus from the genus of #helminths, which is represented in Europe with well over 100 species. Helminths are - as far as known - NOT edible mushrooms!
Finally get getting around to posting some of the lichen, fungus, and moss we encountered in Quebec a couple of weeks ago. More in the replies. #lichensubscribe#fungus#mushtodon#mosstodon
Spotted a couple of new Dog's Vomit #SlimeMould (Fuligo septica) and a young polypore #Fungus that looks unusual because it's still round all over - from a distance it looked like a bloated fish in a tree.
It's starting again! The best time of the year! Fungi season is here! 😍
This little fella was my first one this year, it's nothing special, but I still like it and hope you do too. 🙂
