Urg. I don’t get why #DeSantis won #Florida. He’s opposed to helping Floridians with their actual big, expensive problems. They’re sinking into the sea, don’t cha know.
Don’t get me started on the short-sighted political stuff- I also don’t get why people want to sink their own boat.

Apple Serviceberry (Amelanchier lamarckii). I wouldn't normally buy such a large specimen (because younger specimens establish better) but hard to get hold of round here. Which is weird, because these ornamental, edible, North American shrubs/trees are everywhere.

Not the best photo but you get the idea, amelanchiery and tall.

We need to come up with another term for #greenwashing. It’s important to reward companies for their carbon cutting efforts, even if they are too little, too late, pathetic. Like giving toddlers a reward for not having a meltdown.

    Summer and I have been awake since 4 am. Together, we watched the sun rise through the fog.
    We are on our own this morning because my husband went on a field trip. His lifelong friend picked him up at 4:30 a.m. with big plans to take him out in the wilds. They will be using an ATV to go to the lake that is on his friends ranch. I sent along a cooler full of picnicking goodies. I so hope he has a great time.
    Summer isn't so sure about letting him leave without her.

    So many bad stories get posted, I thought I'd say: I visited a new dentist today. Everyone in the office--dentist, assistant, receptionist, and for that matter, me--was masked with a high-efficiency respirator.

    Some people consider the breathability of N95s to be a benefit, but considering that it manages to fog-up my glasses (the design was really not made with masks in mind and it shows, I'll get different ones next time) anyway (if to a much lesser degree than masks which don't seal on my face, but the top still breathes as much as the rest of it), I find proper reusable respirators do much better at completely doing away with the fogging-up issue.

    Not sure why Fit Test’s page is blank. Don’t think he’s mirroring in the fediverse. He has a lot of great fit data on the network that shall not be named.

    Takes some effort to understand the numbers he assigns to masks - it’s generally how many times cleaner the air is inside a particular mask vs. just outside.

    For example, surgical masks tend to be 2-3 times cleaner inside than out. Most bifold n95s are around 5 times cleaner/more filtered inside than outside. If an n95 worked as advertised, it would be 20 times cleaner in/out. Some standouts with super sturdy nose wires and excellent design rate 20-250 times more filtered inside vs out.

    Baggy blues are certainly better than nothing. The way they fogged up my glasses was my first impetus to cut off the air escape routes.

    This succession movement to shift Oregon’s borders and make the red counties part of Idaho is the very essence of the modern MAGA movement. Political losers who think that government revolves around them and them alone. They are totally unwilling to accept defeat and that makes them the most dangerous people in today’s America. They’ll do anything to stay in power - break laws, commit violence, change the rules and laws and try to shift borders. To hell w/ all of them.

    I’m horrified that some people care so little about their own lives and the lives of their friends. Surprised, no.

    Before I moved to my latest place, I had the cigarette-scented ceiling popcorn removed. The drywall boss asked why I always #MaskUp. I asked him why he doesn’t.

    The contractor said he doesn’t want to live until he’s old and feeble. Said he never worries about taking safety measures. Of any kind.

    He NEVER ASKED if there was #asbestos in this 70’s home. Thing is, he’s responsible for a demo crew of four young men.

    Talking to a friend who’s in the hospital and had a sign on their door requesting masking, for their safety. Most staff only wore paper masks, if that. (Doctors were worst at masking at all.)

    Yesterday friend had a bit of a sore throat, and was immediately COVID tested and now the door sign is “heightened COVID risk” and everyone is wearing N95s on entering.

    They’ve decided to have a sore throat until discharge, since apparently the only way to be protected is to pose a risk to the staff.
