Yellow iris - invasive but beautiful in the wetland of the woods

Many trail sections are muddy and wet, but it's nice to discover these flowers in the middle of the wood - invasive species, though 🤔

Good evening Fediversistas! Busy day. A pleasant evening amble included a quick stop where I got some brand new shoes in exchange for some old boots from which the soles had detached from the upper. They should do for damp spring outings. M’colleague got some free bikkits.

Ithan Creek, PA

I love this small waterfall, about 5-foot tall. When the temperature is high, I see people bathing here 😊
So, first come, first served 😉
Last Thursday, I lost to several teenagers on a warm day, but I was the only one on Saturday because it was pretty cold 😊

The picture is from Saturday.

#photomay2024 - Jour 8 : Paix

Wetland in the woods

Very humid evening with a lot of bugs flying around, but I like this place 😊 No fish, but a lot of frogs 😉

May 8, 1983, 41 years ago today: There is nothing like trying to pack up everything you own in a downpour. My sleeping bag was soaked, my tent was hopeless; everything was drenched. Adding insult to injury, the rain came to a dead stop about five minutes after I had finished packing.

From Arethusa Falls trail a couple years ago. We didn't make it to all of the falls since the teen and I were having irreconcilable differences that day. “;^)

A log boardwalk in the wetland

The trail was mostly muddy with a lot of water. I was wearing fishing waders, but the log footsteps in this section were still intact 😊

Muddy trail in the woods

Arriving at a local creek this evening, I discovered that I forgot fishing lines and also premade fishing rigs 😭 So, I just decided to take a walk in the woods 😊 I didn’t forget fishing waders, so, I had no problem walking such trails 😉 BTW, this is a designated trail, which I usually avoid because it very muddy and wet 😊

High Country News has a nice piece up today about #Hiking Trail #etiquette

When is it appropriate to call out bad trail etiquette? https://www.hcn.org/articles/when-is-it-appropriate-to-call-out-bad-trail-etiquette/

“Is this something that just bothers me specifically, or is this something that is a safety concern?”

If it’s something that endangers other people or the environment — throwing rocks off a cliff onto a trail below or building a campfire during a fire ban — Matias suggests reaching out to park officials. But if you’re in a wilderness setting, Mapp suggests acting with empathy & respect, rather than accusation. Start, for example, by learning where the other person is coming from and why they may be acting in a certain way.

I managed to get up to the of Eryri for a couple of days. not , but a couple of beautiful routes and perfect weather.

Day 1: Moel Siabod via Daear Ddu Ridge (Grade 1 scramble). Day 2: Cadair Idris via the Minffordd Path (somehow more technical than the scrambling!).

Hike: 10.7km, 946m elevation gain. Features bagged: Craig Lwyd (690m), Craig Cwm Amarch (792m), Cadair Idris (893).
A man with a backpack traversing a steep rocky ridge (Daear Ddu on Moel Siabod).
Cadair Idris (centre) and Craig Cwm Amarch (left) behind Llyn Cau (a lake).
