@ai6yr https://radar.weather.gov/station/knkx/standard So far just a watch down here but wouldn't be surprised if the SD/OC county line area (Oceanside, San Clemente) and Riverside all gets warned soon, it looks like it's all funneling up that way

@ai6yr Does make me worry about the bluffs over/under the train tracks in that area. Only direct connection to OC/to the rest of California headed north, and Amtrak is already shut down from a collapse and routing around with buses.

Appparently the tracks are still open for freight, not passenger...

@ai6yr it's actually a bit of a problem in storms like this since we have a radar hole over the mountains between SD and Imperial - the SD radar only covers like up to Julian going east before hitting mountain interference (and there's a lot of local bounce due to its location, making it very hard to do short-fuse tornado warnings on low-topped supercells) and the Yuma one only covers the eastern half of Imperial county where it meets AZ

Literally all of the #LosAngeles area is under life-threatening #flood risk. The NWS does NOT throw "Particularly Dangerous Situation" around for fun.

This is VERY serious - if you're anywhere in the LA area (or in SoCal in general now) beware of flood/mudslide conditions near your area - be able to receive warnings and ready to #evacuate if you need to do so!

All of metro #LosAngeles and surrounding areas including Hollywood, Santa Monica, etc etc are now under a #FlashFlood warning. Life threatening flooding is occurring, please stay safe

and from someone who used to live there, STAY AWAY FROM THE LA RIVER CHANNELS. They're going to be running super high

Okay, picking up from my video game post yesterday, I'm curious:

When you play video games, rpgs, ect, where you get to choose your character, do you tend to choose a character of the same sex, the opposite sex, non-binary, anthropomorphic, or a mysterious 4th option?

If you want to share screenshots of character builds I would enjoy that!

@RickiTarr I tend to do multiple characters and experiment with all the choices but my main is usually the same (male) although I do also like playing the options that are humanoid anthro/Different (elves, vampires, aliens, cat people, merpeople, faeries whatevs)

Currently my main in FFXIV is a miquote (the more humanoid cat man option) - I’ve also had him as male viera (bunny! And the closest thing to canonical transmasc rep, but I got tired of limited headgear so I went back to kitty)

-- this mean there is a 70% risk of meeting flash flood rainfall conditions

Do you think it is because you've read it over 100 times and are bored? Maybe send it to your editor/beta and tell yourself you did your best.

Do you feel guilty/you've grown past it? Then maybe reconsider

Of course, it's always been known that exterminationist movements are too common in US politics - in both parties - but this is literally politicians laying groundwork for a specific, targeted genocidal act that was tried before by nazi Germany.

it needs to be addressed with not only voting them out of office/primarying them, but with demands for resignation, protests, and whatever other means can be found to stop a resurgence of nazi ideology, against historical targets, in the US

Cautiously optimistic here. If this solar to hydrogen technology works (and doesn't explode), it could be the end of fossil fuels, at least for electrical/heating needs. Quite possibly for vehicular needs too.

One of the biggest problems with hydrogen (as it's promoted by the fossil fuel industry so far) is that it needs fossil fuel inputs.

Hydrogen with no fossil fuel inputs would be... very good if true

IMO, the only way we're going to get out of the climate crisis (aside from large-scale revolution and the complete overthrow of capitalists and beneficiaries of fossil fuel wealth) is to make fossil fuels costly, obsolete, useless in comparison to other options, etc.

Of course that is unsatisfying and not a "pure" solution that solves everything intertwined with fossil fuels and extractive structure, and I'd prefer revolution, but making fossil fuels outmoded would be a good in itself

@RickiTarr Probably the most unpopular opinion in some corners here, but YES. Unqualified, absolute yes.

Elaborating on my reasons would take up an entire post so I won't, except to say no, I am not a TESCREAL type or buying into the weird Silicon Valley immortality schemes, and it's definitely more of a "wanting to make use of experience, historical knowledge, etc to do actual good" and being a true agnostic and not wanting to gamble on "is there an afterlife, and if so, whose is it?"

@RickiTarr (Plus, depending on what fictional variant it would be in the thought exercise, it would actually be super awesome to never be at risk of death. Less so if it was one of the ones where you would end up as a brain in a jar at the heat death of the universe for being THAT unkillable, but, think of all the things that are forbidden or required just to ideally squeeze a few more years out of our actual lives, that we could all just happily ignore)
