Gives you some indication of the general direction of Massachusetts settlement: 15 Massachusetts towns are directional additions to other MA towns (eg Adams; North Adams). 7 are WEST, 5 are NORTH, 3 are EAST (and 2 of these, E. Bridgewater and E. brookfield also have a west and/or north counterpart), and 0 are SOUTH #boston #massachusetts #maps #newengland #usa

@universalhub shoot you are right that I missed south Hadley. The 0 should be 1. I didn’t include places that have no neutral (non directional) town next to them.

Is there a calculator to let people calculate actual cost per mile to drive a given car, accounting for actual purchase price, insurance, gas prices, parking costs, and length of time one has owned car? Trying to see just how much I’m saving with an ebike. @TheWarOnCars @seabikeblog

The 5 year old boys wear t shirts and shorts for gymnastics; the 5 year old girls wear sparkly, form fitting leotards. So this is how it begins.

I’m zooming down a 3 block, 1 way (1 lane) neighborhood arterial hill w/a sharrow, along the sharrow line (ie in traffic). Speed limit is 25 (and several people have “20 is plenty” signs on lawns). I’m going btw 20-27 (speeding up as I go down hill). There’s a car behind me. When we get to bottom, and before he turns the opposite direction, he says out his window, exasperated, you need to let people pass. Do I need to? @seabikeblog

Nothing like the pleasure of seeing my tiny (~30lb) 5 year old blaze around the park having newly mastered the Woom 2 pedal bike. Edmonds civic center park, great for this purpose!

Bit of a design fail when I choose to avoid the “healthy street” intended for bikes because there are so many speed bumps to slow down cars (without cutouts for bikes) and go for the parallel no speed bump side street instead. For local folks (1st ave north of 85th in Greenwood—I’ve been diverting to 2nd instead).

The current wide-legged pants trend is really not so bike friendly (extra hassle of binding the bottom, don’t work well under rain pants…) #bike #BikeTooter #cycling #seabikes #women #fashion

I arrive at public #library in AM greeted by staff person who sees I’m in biking gear:
Him: it’s pretty cold to be biking today!
Me: Yeah, I just bundle up and it’s great
Him: Actually, I biked here too. So I’m really just complimenting myself

When will we get a proper bike connection on the 1st Ave NE crossing over I-5? It’s inexplicable that it doesn’t exist given that it’s the main way that neighborhood west of the highway can access the light rail station #seattle #seabikes #biketooter #cycling

If Sound Transit #seattle wanted a bit more fare compliance, installing a lot more of those yellow card readers would really help. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve not tapped in or out because there’s not one on the platform, or there’s not one next to the elevator I’m using, or I’m wrangling a kid. (I have a pass from work, so for me tapping is more about accurately recording trips taken, not my personally avoiding fares, but still). #pnw #PublicTransport #transit #trains #urbanism

It’s maddening that Claudine Gay’s NYT oped barely mentions #israel / #palestine, and only to (appropriately) condemn Hamas for the Oct 7 attacks, with literally no reference to the ongoing slaughter, starvation, and mass displacement in #gaza

It is maddeningly difficult to figure out how to do an all-train itinerary from Seattle to Tacoma to see the model train display at hr WA state history museum (and not stay all day). Sounder, please increase service. (Might be able to cobble together Amtrak plus sounder, but not ideal times) #trains #PublicTransport #urbanism #seattle #pnw

I live in #seattle and like 80% of craft beers available in my local supermarket are IPAs. I hate IPAs, or, I think I do. Way too bitter. Given this, which IPA should I try first to test the waters? #pnw #beer
