I was watching a video on the review scores for Paper Mario and this popped up.

They really are completely clueless about everything aren't they?
How is this a good look when trying to advertise your AI crap?

Never mind the linking of the Vulcan salute with the phrase "Resistance is futile".

But actually thinking that it's a great way to advertise this crap by stating that it'll swallow everything up, no matter wether we fight it or not.

Yeah, brilliant advertisement there! :cat_ick:

@OutofPrintArchive

The only thing as shitty as leveraging so-called "AI" into every nook and cranny is completely off the mark ads like this. Glad I only have to use Microshit at work.

@OutofPrintArchive

Essentially saying that they're the Empire and there's no point in joining the rebellion. Via way of an inaccurate Vulcan reference.

I've been back on Mac too for my own stuff since 2011, after about ten years using Windows at home as well as work. Apple have their own issues, obvs, but having had to work professionally on PC since DOS days and used every version of Windows from 3.1 to 10, my dislike for M$ is deeply ingrained.

Considering it’s treated as nothing more than a comedy song (because, to be fair, it is very, very funny), there’s no reason for Horse Outside to be such an incredible tune. I’m actually annoyed that I didn’t think of it for last night’s show.

I almost posted this to your earlier thread. I find this song genuinely moving, whilst also hilarious. So good.

Mia Fey bringing the 2003 pop culture references to ‘Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations’. 😉

(It was a lot less dated in 2007 when this DS port was released. Makes me wonder what line it replaced from the Japan-only 2004 GBA original…)

Sorry if I’m quiet for a bit. Last night I started getting pain again in my side.
Got worse and worse and I wasn’t able to sleep at all till 7am.
Kindney stones again. Time pieces probably but the pain is just as bad.
Slept most of the day and now the pain is starting again, so tonight will be hell again. Not to mention the nausea.

imalcolm,
@imalcolm@mastodon.social avatar

@OutofPrintArchive

Really hope that the rest of the pain passes soon. I’ve had kidney stone/gallstone type internal pain twice in my life and can still remember just how excruciating it was and how never-ending it seemed - I would not wish it upon my worst enemy. Take care mate.

Always a damn fine day when something like this arrives in the post out of the blue.

How much do I love Tempest 4000 by @llamasoft_ox and @gilesgoat ...? Well this physical edition joins the digital copy I've been playing since release for the Switch, and the physical copy I first got on PS4 years back...

A thing of psychedelic beauty - a perfect melding of old-school arcade-style gaming and new. Somehow I never tire of it. 😎

Housing prices today are absolute nuts; in 2003 our apartment cost less than half of the median unit price in Melbourne today. God knows how we'd buy a place nowadays on freelance incomes. Way past time for government to remove property investor tax incentives.

Australia property prices: Average household would struggle to buy average house

@timrichards

Indeed. Turning what should be homes into investments has been the worst thing. We managed to buy a house in 2007 but despair of our kids (or anyone else's) ever affording anything.

Problem is the LNP see nothing wrong and Labor are just as bad - pretty much all of them from Albo down have multiple investment properties, so they're never going to do a thing that will actually help.

Despite having a movie watch list long enough that I will clearly never get to the end in this lifetime, tonight (at least partially because I still can't play 'Llamasoft: The Jeff Minter Story' yet on my Switch), I found myself rewatching Hudson Hawk for at least the third time in my life so far.

Here's a quick review I just banged out, on Letterboxd. (Spoiler: Against the prevailing wisdom/party line, this movie gives me joy.)

Parked under a shady tree waiting for partner and youngest to finish shopping - perfect opportunity for a quick run (or ten) in Porklike on my phone.

Only discovered this minimalist Pico 8 roguelike with ZX Spectrum-esque graphics last week, but it’s now my current fave “just one more go” five-minute filler.

Normally I play on Mac, but nice to see on phone it adds virtual touch controls. Goal is to reach the 10th floor - my current best run ended on the 6th…

That is always my response. It's just "Han shot."

And as well as being a bad-ass move that was a great short-cut to defining the character, it was perfectly justified.

Greedo is literally pointing a gun at him and says "I've been looking forward to this for a long time."

That even Lucas doesn't appear to understand any of this, despite writing and filming it originally, is eternally baffling. 🤷‍♂️

It's just before midday on 5 May here in Australia, but in some parts of the world its still the 4th...

So with that in mind, here's a bit of Star Wars-related gaming history - an interview I did for Time Extension about developing the NES Star Wars for Lucasfilm back in the day.

Took the kids to Melbourne Museum today to see 'Relics', a temporary exhibition depicting a post-apocalyptic world where LEGO minifigs have risen from the debris to craft new civilisations in discarded human artefacts.

I have to say that this repurposed old Space Invaders cab certainly caught my eye.

Tough times for restaurateurs. This quote rings true:

“Hospitality can’t pass prices on in the same way that most other industries can,” he says. “There is only so much you’ll pay for a coffee or sandwich or bowl of pasta.”

Cost of living Australia: Why are so many restaurants closing right now?

Yep. We used to go out for two evening meals a week. Now it's more like one every two to three weeks.

Our income is the same, but dining out is so much more expensive now, so something had to give.

(Same with coffee out. I used to get three or four a day. Now it's two at most, and often just one.)

Not a patch on some of the amazing shots I'm seeing, but as I'm laid up with Covid this is the best shot I've managed of the #AuroraAustralis looking out onto the street from my front porch tonight.

Just insane colours. (3 second exposure, handheld on iPhone 13 mini.)

Just finished 'Cruel Provocations' by @golgaloth and I wish it wasn't over - so much so that I stopped myself reading the last few chapters last night, just to draw the enjoyment out a little longer.

An intriguing tale that combines an ostensibly fantasy setting with proto-electric technology (lightning-punk?) its twists and turns take you to unexpected places, and does "the fey" with a unique approach that I loved.

A very impressive debut novel that cries out for a sequel!

For those in Oz with a penchant for folk-horror, I noticed last night that SBS On Demand currently has the classic 1973 original of 'The Wicker Man' available.

It expires a month from now, so be sure to take a trip to Summerisle before then, otherwise their apple crops may fail once more... 😉

It was our house bunny Nyra's 6th birthday yesterday!

(Her main present was a new parsley and lucerne bowl with a filling of dried carrot - her favourite.)

To mark the occasion here she is stretched out relaxing in the lounge as we watched a bit of telly late last night (slightly blurry shot as room only illuminated by TV glow).
