Gestern Bürgerversammlung zum geplanten Windpark in #Tübingen. Sehr zivile Diskussion. Stadtwerke und sogar Polarisierer Palmer haben gute Argumente gebracht und die Bürgerinitiative („rettet den Rammert“) argumentativ entkräftet.

Aber auffällig: In dem 2-stündigen offenen Fragenteil ging es fast nur um uns, unsere Häuser, unser Wald, unsere Lebensqualität. Der einzige, der das große Ganze ansprach, die Wucht der Klimakrise im globalen Süden, unsere Pflicht selbst zu handeln, war der Pfarrer.

@pikarl Abschaffen von Autos etc. ist utopisch und realitätsfern. Das wird in unserer Gesellschaft niemals freiwillig passieren... ich bin mir aber ziemlich sicher, dass man trotzdem noch viele Schrauben findet: Stichwort Dezentralisierung, Speicher, e-Kleinwagen statt SUVs, Inlandflüge, ÖPNV,...

Energieunabhängigkeit mit sauberer Energie sollte das zentrale Thema der Zukunft sein! Und das wird auch nicht ohne Windräder gehen...

@NatureMC @pikarl Dort, wo es Sinn macht (Innenstädte) auf jeden Fall! Aber eben nur mit ausreichend Alternativ-Infrastruktur. Radwege die auch E-Scooter & Lastenräder packen, und verlässlicher, 24/7 ÖPNV. Ersteres würde durch Wegfall von Auto-Infrastruktur sicher klappen, zweiteres... könnte theoretisch auch jetzt schon besser werden, aber wir sind so weit davon entfernt! :/

@NatureMC @pikarl Ich hab da auch schon Bilder aus Paris gesehen, wo Straßen um Bäume, Radwege und Parkplätze ergänzt wurden, dafür aber nur noch als Einbahnstraße für Autos galten. Dafür finden sich auch in DE bestimmt eine Menge Orte! Gleichzeitig muss man das Auto ja nicht verteufeln, es gibt ebenso viele Orte, in denen es ohne nicht geht und nicht gehen muss. Ist oft viel zu aufgeheizt dieses Thema.

Please, EU and other governments make desktop software yearly subscriptions illegal from the likes of Microsoft, Adobe, and others. This is nothing but another example of crash grabs. I hate this so much. What do you think?

@nixCraft I hate it, too. I still use MS stuff because... difficult to find an alternative and together with 1TB Cloud Storage it feel kinda okay.

Adobe is 100% banned. Don't even use their free products. Affinity has good alternatives for image editing, Davinci Resolve is a better alternative to premiere. PDF? Browser.

For one personal site it's just plain HTML.

I have others made with React, but I won't do this anymore for content sites.

I've tried #hugocms recently, but I don't get warm with it. The syntax is strange and the documentation annoying, without ChatGPT I would not have reached anything with that tool.

Now I'm trying @astro, looks quite perfect for me. Still thinking about which CMS to use with it.

Maybe one day I want to add a blog.

Some people may hate it... but I think I'll try to build (yet another) static site generator based on #React / #JSX. It will result in static sites that even work without #JS though 😅 Or at least js is optional, just for explicit features.

I tried different static site #frameworks, but I hated all of them. Building user interfaces with JSX is so superior, live rendering with js/react just isn't. But it's also not needed for static sites, so...

@SomeGadgetGuy I really hope 2024 will be the year where we'll see good Windows ARM devices that work good enough to recommend them for most average consumers but also for me personally to use it for mobile work scenarios. The new SoC seems to fulfill this :) I'm so curious to see results of real devices.

@matthiasott in Germany there's netcup, who sells VPS and Domains. They regularly have discounts; I don't know any place where I'd get a .de Domain for 1,68€ per year(!)
Full control over DNS included; redirecting, Nameserver, letsentcrypt and other stuff is as easy as it can be.

I had some ideas for fediverse apps but honestly the protocol is so challenging to implement I realized I would be spending 80% of the time dealing with ActivityPub integration and 20% actually working on the app itself.

"Just make it federated" is never going to be a thing with these specs, even reusable libraries and test suites are too difficult to implement.

I accidentally learned Figma this year after having dropped my intent to to ever be a "web designer" about a decade ago.

By which I mean, for my personal projects I always genuinely have designed in the browser.

But... as a developer using Figma, it's fascinating trying to fit in paradigms like grid, flexbox, container queries, fluid type and aspect ratios, especially as I am considering "ok and how will I develop this" along the way.

We need to start grading websites by how usable they are without an ad blocker. Can you think of any organization that could do this?

The criteria could be

  • how long the user has to wait to start interacting with the website
  • the overall responsiveness when scrolling and interacting with the website
  • how many popups the user has to clear in the first couple of minutes, and how many clicks that requires
  • how “difficult” it is to consume the main content

    I switched like 50% to a domain/email provider with my own domain. They offer a webmail interface for it but I just use it in thunderbird. It costs 2€ / month, 2GB included. Spam filter works fine.
    Not a single compatibility issue since the beginning (4?5? years)

    Setup is easy, and my mails are stored in germany respecting all the laws.

    I use strato for this, and for mails they are fine, if you want to do anything else with the domain, use someone else, like Ionos.
