@PhilipCJames Again, I disagree. Farage is attracted to the whiff of power like a moth to a flame. I believe it was always his plan to stand. But this time he bided his time to make an impact. You don't just pick a constituency at random. So this required planning.

@PhilipCJames There is a further point. How does Farage really win here? Not by becoming an MP. How Farage really gets what he wants is by making everybody else dance to the Reform agenda. In the Tories he has done that a lot. He has even affected Labour. The whole agenda is shifted right.

Farage could lose every war but still win the battle if the UK ends up politically as Reform.

Its why I prefer the term "climate breakdown". The point is the stability we have known will be lost, the unpredictability (and the extremes) will increase as a result of the base temperature rise.

We tend to live in a myth of everything always being the same but its exactly that stability which is going away.

This film exists. In fact, its a series. Its called Mad Max and was predicated on civilisation collapsing after war and environmental disaster. George Miller, its creator, assumed in conceiving of it that governments would do nothing to provide alternatives to the capitalist status quo which, if destroyed, would leave civilisation helpless until it destroyed itself.

It takes more than a website to keep the world going. It takes mass cooperation.

When Elon Musk wrote out the sentence "cis is a heterophobic word" he proved that, in this world we all live in, you can be both the richest person alive AND stupid AF.

But it is the perfect example of the fact that anti-trans hate is based on not even understanding what you are talking about - nor even trying to. Its ignorance worn as a badge of pride.

What is the most subversive movie ever made?

I want to make the case that its BLADE RUNNER.

We are supposed to think here that Deckard, the cop, the bounty hunter acting on authority, is the good guy.

Only he's not. He's a puppet, a stooge, inauthentic.

The good guys in Blade Runner are the replicants - created, artificial, self-determining, self-actualising, aware of their self-worth, authentic. They fight for their freedom against all comers.

A woman gains nothing when JK Rowling is gratuitously cruel to random trans women on the internet. It doesn’t gain a woman equal pay, opportunities in sport, protection from sexual violence or protection from misogyny. In fact, many women would say their experience of misogyny has increased markedly at the hands of Rowling fanboys. She is hurting real people, people who just want to live their lives in peace in order to claim some hollow victory by destroying all around her.

If the same people go after trans rights, gay + lesbian rights and women's rights, and if these people are always traditionalists working in the cause of a strictly defined social conservatism, then isn't the problem that a patriarchy wants to control the sexual lives and gender expressions of others, to restrict personal freedoms and to create incarcerating and incarcerated lives?

The fight is between freedom and unfreedom.

Okay, its a terrible picture and its not ironed cause its way too hot to iron. The pattern is straight, fabric is just bundled up under it.

by . Stitched on white 16ct aida fabric, using approx 370 metres of black DMC thread, 6 needles used. Final stitched area is - 55cm wide and 69cm high.

This was a labour of love, a challenge, a reward to myself, part of my journey.

Its done now.

Nothing else matters.

Almost 80% of IPCC climate scientists believe we're heading for 2.5ºC of warming this century; 50% say 3ºC.

These are objectively disastrous numbers.

Over 70% say that lack of political will is to blame; 60% also blame vested corporate interests.

I'd add the demagogues, populists, & their cronies, weaponising denialism for their own short-term selfish gains.

History will judge our generation very harshly.
