Around the world, people are experiencing the once-in-a-lifetime phenomenon of a brilliant aurora display, as massive doses of solar radiation bombard the atmosphere turning it into gigantic radioactive florescent lights (nothing to see down here in L.A. though this evening, and city lights make it even less likely). Enjoy the show!

BUT REMEMBER THIS, DEAR FRIENDS!

In the 1963 horror/sci-fi classic "The Day of the Triffids", a lengthy, once-in-a-lifetime spectacular display of massive glowing meteor showers lasts long enough for the entire planet to see it at night. Everyone able to do so was urged to see this wonder!

The next morning, everyone who had viewed the amazing display was blind. And then the giant mobile man-eating plants that had arrived with the meteors, spread across the Earth.

ENJOY!

Donald Trump now has the most detailed policy platform of his political career -- and it's largely the work of two people you've never heard of.

Trump campaign speechwriters and are the masterminds behind most of Trump's policy statements. The two worked under Stephen in the Trump White House.

Haley and Worthington write the first drafts of scripts Trump uses to record policy videos as well as the text on how a second Trump administration would handle issues from education to energy and immigration.

Those videos and corresponding text on his website go into far more detail than Trump, who famously has little interest in policy, does on the stump.

Trump often goes off-script in his speeches and spends just 11% of the time talking about his policy plans, an Axios analysis found.

His campaign aides frequently say that he is the most gifted politician and ultimately decides how to message on the issues.

Trump and his team are also in frequent communication with a constellation of figures on policy ideas, including Trump's former trade representative Robert and former White House budget director Russell , WSJ reported.

The Stephen Miller connection:
Haley and Worthington worked under Miller in the White House speechwriting office for four years, co-managing the speechwriting shop.

"Miller would always go over speech drafts" including both official and political speeches that Haley and Worthington wrote, Worthington told Jan. 6 committee investigators in February 2022 after being subpoenaed.

Though they have next to no public presence, they are known to be very chatty on the campaign's daily internal comms call.

While Miller is not technically on the campaign, his relationship with his former subordinates and his direct line to Trump allow him to maintain a consequential role in shaping a potential Trump second term.

Between the lines: Both men have deep ties to former House Speaker Newt .

Haley, a lawyer by training, served as policy director and campaign manager for Gingrich's 2012 presidential campaign. They co-authored several books together and Haley was an associate producer on Gingrich's documentary Ronald Reagan: Rendezvous with Destiny.

Worthington was deputy communications director for Gingrich's 2012 presidential campaign and later authored a book with Gingrich.

Fell into a #YouTube rabbit hole last night regarding Carmen Miranda. At one time one of the most famous women in the world -- parodied in art and famous cartoons, and the template for Chiquita bananas labels and their original commercials, she died reportedly of alcohol, pills, and smoking at only 46.

Most recognizable for her singing dances, bare midriff, and fruit-filled hats, her influence is still felt today.

I stumbled onto an episode of the Jimmy Durante show aired two months after her death (featuring Carmen guest starring) from 1955, where Jimmy first spoke to camera noting that her last performance before dying was for his show (in a comedy skit), that he felt it was still appropriate to show it, and that he had a telegram from her family giving their blessing to his doing so.

If you're not familiar with her, do a YouTube search, and be amazed.

Billions in taxpayer dollars now go to religious schools via vouchers
The rapid expansion of state programs follows court decisions that have
💥eroded the separation between church and state.💥

School vouchers can be used at almost any private school, but the vast majority of the money is being directed to , according to a Washington Post examination of the nation’s largest voucher programs.
Vouchers, government money that covers education costs for families outside the public schools, vary by state
but offer up to $16,000 per student per year,
and in many cases fully cover the cost of tuition at private schools.

In some schools, a large share of the student body is benefiting from a voucher, meaning
a significant portion of the school’s funding is coming directly from the government.

The programs, popular with conservatives, are rapidly growing in GOP-run states,
with a total of 28 states plus D.C. operating some sort of voucher system.

Eight states created or expanded voucher programs last year,
and this year, Alabama, Georgia and Missouri have approved or expanded voucher-type programs.

Some recently enacted plans are just starting to take effect or will be phased in over the next few years.

Another Provocative Flag Was Flown at Another #Alito Home

Last summer,
two years after an upside-down American flag was flown outside the Virginia home of Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr.,
another provocative symbol was displayed at his vacation house in New Jersey, according to interviews and photographs.

This time, it was the
♦️ “Appeal to Heaven” flag, ♦️
which, like the inverted U.S. flag, was carried by rioters at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.
Also known as the
💥Pine Tree flag, 💥
it dates back to the Revolutionary War, but largely fell into obscurity until recent years and is
👉 now a symbol of support for former President Donald J. Trump, for a religious strand of the “Stop the Steal” campaign and for a push to remake American government in Christian terms.

Three photographs obtained by The New York Times, along with accounts from a half-dozen neighbors and passers-by, show that the Appeal to Heaven flag was aloft at the Alito home on Long Beach Island in July and September of 2023.
A Google Street View image from late August also shows the flag.

From now on, nobody will be able to see how much celebrities abuse the environment with their private jet-related CO2 emissions. And for that, we have Congress to thank.
An amendment in the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reauthorization bill
—which was initially introduced last June and signed into law on May 16 by President Biden
—will make it extremely difficult, borderline impossible, to track private jet activity because private jet owners will now be able to make their registration information anonymous, Gizmodo reports.
Before the law was passed, anybody could look up celebrities and their private jet activity on the FAA civil registry.
Now, that registry will become private for those private jet owners who ask for their identifying information to be hidden, making it almost impossible for folks to intersect that data with radar mapping.
Ultimately, that has allowed committed planespotters to figure out where and when celebrities travel aboard their private CO2-emitting planes.
Among those planespotting enthusiasts is Jack Sweeney, the college student and planespotter whose Twitter profile is famous for tracking celebrity jet activity. Thanks to his efforts, Sweeney has been in the public eye for a while now, so much so that his activity has grabbed the attention of many private jet-abusing celebrities, including Elon Musk and Taylor Swift.
In 2020, Musk threatened to sue Sweeney after he created his since–famous Twitter profile and even proceeded to shadowban him and ban him after purchasing Twitter in 2022. However, Sweeney's planespotting profile has since been allowed back on X.
Swift, instead, famously served Sweeney with a cease-and-desist letter after he published a compilation video of Swift's private jet flights in 2023. According to that data, she flew 178,000 miles in that period, which is a lot, especially regarding CO2 emissions. We're talking 1,200 tons of it, as Sweeney reported.
With the new law passing, Sweeney likely isn't pleased right now. Don't worry—we asked him, and should he get back to us in a timely fashion, we'll let you know.
However, this doesn't mean that all hope's lost in determining which celebrities are most at fault because of their private jet usage.
As Thrillist just reported, a new study recently analyzed the private jet activity of celebrities between 2023 and 2024 and managed to rank them based on their CO2 emissions.
According to the study, Pitbull is the "winner," sitting at the top of the ranking with 4,549 metric tons of CO2 in 396 flights.
Travis Scott emitted 3,760 metric tons of CO2 in 203 flights,
while Kim Kardashian emitted 3,204 metric tons of CO2 in 210 flights.
Taylor Swift came in at number 13 with 1,055 metric tons of CO2 emitted in 133 flights.
You can read more about the worst celebrities for their private jet CO2 emissions here.
