I have been cat called so many times running, and once a young man slapped my bum from behind and tried to pull me into the bushes, but I think this is worse. Why the fuck is women feeling powerful through running something men feel compelled to try and take away?

@purplepadma wow... I've never experienced anything like this when running. The worst was being chased by someone's off leash Yorkie. I may have been cat called, but wouldn't know since I have music on when I run. I would have been in jail because I would most likely have punched that guy.

In the past week my kids have lost

13s trumpet 7s baseball bag with all his gear
The remote to their tv

I've made 13 purchase a new trumpet....getting ready to tell 7 he's on the hook for his bats, helmet, and glove. Also, they can only watch tv if 13 is home because he downloaded a remote control app on his phone.

I'm tired.

Also, if I've already said "idiot-proof" in conversations, emails, meetings, and presentations, what's a diplomatic yet convincing way to explain that away?

Taking my nephew out tomorrow night in a first ever uncle nephew..... event? Going to see a band called Pierce The Veil, who I haven't really listened to before (but always love a gig).

I've worked hard to build a bridge for him - he lived with us for a few years when he was little, then when his parents split very acrimoniously we became the designated meeting point. Then when he came out as gay his dad (my BiL) disowned him for a bit, and without ego I will say I pieced that one back together and they're now 'fine' (dad is never going to be totally OK, but is slowly growing, against his will.

Anyway - point is, this kid is full emo, 6ft something, nothing of him, long purple hair, covered in self harm scars so wears long gloves, and is Extremely ND, so wears big earphones to avoid interactions.

We've never hung out 121 like this and I'm pretty sure he sees me as some alien thing, impossible to relate. But I'm very keen not to just hone on on everything he might be worried about to try and diffuse any tension by going in too hard on trying to relate. He doesn't need to know all of my struggles - I think that might just freak him out a bit. I know my tendency is to try and be the cool uncle, and don't want to fuck it up.

Look - I know this is a bit intensely personal. I'm putting it out there hoping someone has a magic solution for something to talk about on the hour and a half journey to get there (Alexandra Palace - great venue but so faaaar away), so I don't just say stuff like "so, how's your autism, I'm autistic now too" or "are you having a good time being gay?". I hope it'll be a positive and uplifting experience for both of us, but I am having a very tiny panic I might just be unbearably cringe to him.

@TheBreadmonkey I tend to talk to every one over the age of 10 like I would any other adult (minus sensitive topics). I suggest music as the topic. He obviously likes this band. You like live music. I'm sure he'll have his phone on him. Ask him to play some other stuff he likes. You share music you like, stories about shows you've been to.

Most people who are passionate about music could easily talk about it for hours in my experience.

Lots of debate about this, so I'm curious about the consensus.

Should children be allowed to act professionally, as in having a full time acting job in movie/TV/stage? Feel free to elaborate in the comments.

@RickiTarr not as a full time job. I'm fine if it's here and there as a side gig.. That would be like my kids playing sports or doing clubs after school. But no child should regularly be on set 8 hours a day, 5 days a week for longer than a day or two.

How long do child actors in leading roles actually spend on set? I never thought about this before.

@mentallyalex hahahaha. Only after 1am when everyone else is in bed. Pretty sure that's part of the insomnia issue.

Yesterday 13 and 7 both had baseball games. I took 13. Hubs took 7 & 11. Both games ended around 8pm..then everyone was starving, homework, clean up for the cleaners coming today, it was 11pm by the time everything was done. Hubs went up to bed at 12:30. Once he was asleep I chilled until about 2am before falling asleep on the couch. Back up by 7am to do it again. It's going to be like this until mid June when school and spring sports are over.

@mentallyalex 3 years ago hubs gave me a Christmas present of a day or two to myself at a hotel or spa... I've never used it because the timing just hasn't worked out.

@mentallyalex just no free days right now between the issues with 11, work, all 3 kids being in spring sports, etc.

Work wanted to send me to 2 conferences this month, one for 3 days and the other for a week and I had to beg out of it.

Just need to soldier on. I can fall apart late June after I get my heart fixed.

    What is a little white lie you were told as a child, that you believed for too long?

    I was way too old when I figured out a human couldn't actually get sucked down a drain or flushed down a toliet. I used to cling to my little brothers, and pull them out of the bath any time my Mum would pull to plug.
