@thisismyglasgow Hi! On the back of a clock I inherited from my grandfather (which may predate him) is the manufacturing sticker from Waterbury Clock Company in Connecticut, USA. Apparently they also had an office or factory in Glasgow, at 144-146 Ingram St.

I've looked at this through Google Street View, though I can't be sure it's showing the correct building, and of course it's also drive-by photo quality. Could I trouble you to post something from there when you're in the area? Thx!

One of my late father's youngest cousins and her husband were in town for an event, so my wife and I met them for coffee and the handover of the contents of the fabled "Aunt Enid's Trunk" that was in her possession.

Significant may come of this...

How can someone be this old, and this ignorant? This dumb #goober apparently lives in a world defined by whatever bullshit happens to be passing through his head at any given moment. He's completely untethered from reality. The people of #Alabama should be ashamed of themselves for facilitating his election to America's premiere legislative body.

https://2paragraphs.com/2024/03/maga-senator-says-700000-palestinians-coming-to-u-s-were-gonna-make-them-citizens/

MarcC,

@slcw Uh, I didn't vote for Tuberville.

Nor did hundreds of thousands of other Alabamians who overcame ongoing voter suppression to cast their votes against him.

The right-wing Christianist GOP has a stranglehold on this state and they fight tooth and nail to keep it.

So please, if you don't mind, keep your "#Alabama should be ashamed of themselves" bullshit out of the discourse. Come here and do the work if it wouldn't be too much of a bother.

Heather Cox Richardson notes that for decades now, the Republican party has rallied voters by using what Nixon and his v-p Agnew called "positive polarization." They divide the nation by generating fear among their base of white voters. The base is told it is the "true America," and those other Americans, the threatening others, are the enemy. This translates into a belief that whatever you do to win is justified.

Here is how you can support an author and libraries: Go to your library and ask for my latest book. If they don't have it look perplexed. "What? You don't have Teri's latest book?" See if they'll order it.

If you check out a few of my books that helps keep them on the shelves.

(I am always embarrassed when books come out because I think they are priced too high at first. A the same time, I like to announce a new book.)

MarcC,

@Teri_Kanefield Some libraries, at least the Huntsville/Madison county AL one, have an online system for making requests.

I've had success going that route.

Here is the first act of the new right-wing Republican leadership of the House: As a condition of aiding Israel, they insist on defunding the IRS’s ability to go after rich tax cheats.

Not sure why that isn’t getting bigger play in the mainstream press.

What COVID19 has taught us about the Zombie Apocalypse is that there will be zombie denialists, zombie virus infection parties, zombie conspiracy theorists, and politicians ruthlessly exploiting lies about zombies to kill off demographics who won't vote for them—and when a vaccine against Z-virus is invented there will be zombie anti-vaxxers (some of them funded by the Kremlin for shits and giggles).

MarcC,

@cstross That's the one thing it turns out all the pre-COVID pandemic apocalypses got wrong: There would not be militias hijacking and black marketing vaccines and treatments. No, they'd be blowing up the research labs and production facilities.

@marcelias I firmly believe that Dayton's narrow win saved Minnesota from suffering Wisconsin's fate.

The GOP's push to turn Minnesota into Alabama was stymied (says me, an Alabamian that grew up in Minnesota).
