Excellent hike today. Saw some nice flowers, a huge clump of Jack in the Pulpit (really fascinating plant), lots of cliffs, a waterfall, and got to do some climbing up a rock wall to a little cavey area. #Hiking

Well our dishwasher that I bought a year and a half ago has started giving us a "failure to drain" message. My husband has disassembled it and the motors are working fine. Nothing is clogged up. Maybe it's the electronic controller. Why do modern appliances suck so bad? I'm about to just start washing dishes by hand I'm not buying another one. #Enshittification

Who has watched the Three Body Problem on Netflix? I think I'm going to start it this weekend. I was extremely skeptical about it because of how badly the producers screwed up Game of Thrones, but heard it's good. I need some new science fiction to read, who has some suggestions? I don't like military sci-fi. For reference, my favorite series is the Expanse, I also enjoyed Scalzi's Collapsing Empire, I love Robert Charles Wilson's books. I mostly enjoy space operas and unique stories about technology, for example I really liked the recent book Mountain in the Sea about AI and intelligent octopus. Boeing's 787 "Dreamliner" is manufactured ... in a non-union shop in Charleston, South Carolina. At that shop, there is a cage full of defective parts that have been pulled from production because they are not airworthy.

Hundreds of parts from that Material Review Segregation Area (MRSA) were secretly pulled from that cage and installed on aircraft that are currently flying the world's skies.

Thanks to @BatsInLavender I found out today is International Bat Appreciation Day! As someone who likes to explore caves, I've long had a fondness for bats. The ones living here are small and eat insects, helping to keep mosquitoes and crop pests under control. Here's a couple photos from some white nose syndrome research trips to look at gray bats in a federally protected cave in the southeast US. They're so cute!! I have terrible spring hayfever and I'm mostly allergic to grass pollen. That makes weed eating this time of year pretty hellish. I really need to get some beds ready for planting so today I tried a new combo of a covid KF-94 mask, my onion goggles i use to make soap that have a nice seal around my eyes, and a bandana to hold it all on. My husband said to not any neighbors see me or they'd call the police 😆 I'm back inside and I'm not sneezing, so success! #Gardening
