Witnessed waves of butterflies flitting through the farm yesterday, ~50 over 2 acres at any given moment.

Tried to capture on camera but they were riding the winds downhill and my skills were no match to their ungraceful (but safe from predators) flight.

They were light yellow/white. I've seen them before in much greater numbers and managed to photograph then. #iNaturalist community says it's the Common Albatross.

This is called Karjalan raanu (#Karelian tapestry). My mother has made it and I have it in my living room's wall (even if my twin sister says it's really old fashioned. I don't care.) It's a traditional heavy woven rug used as a bed cover and a wall textile in #Karelia where I was born. #karjala #finland #suomimastodon

/Took a photography course on a whim (didn’t complete) more than a decade ago and was introduced to the process. So, I understand the love for the ‘magic’.

I wish someone here would do an ELI5 for the reason behind this.

  • Those vacant houses are from people who couldn’t pay their mortgage?
  • Are real estate people leaving those vacant houses deliberately vacant in the hopes that the value will rise ‘one day’?
  • Those vacant houses are from towns/cities that once had a boom but due to closure of some factory they are now abandoned?

Admins: I have now asked 6 admins what their Mastodon instances cost to run. They vary widely, but the average instance cost seems to run roughly $500 per 10,000 registered users, per month (not MAUs). Is this consistent with your admin experience? If not, is yours significantly more or less $?

Gosh! That’s a humongous amount. Will the Fediverse be sustainable with just donations or a labor of love that way? Agreeing more and more towards the thought that Super Instances will be the only way forward as they’re the ones with huge amounts of patreons.

    It’s one of those acquired tastes. Similar to a reply above, there are many in my own community who don’t like it. The ones from Nagaland are fermented even more - I also can’t have those.

    Nah man. I’m originally from Mizoram, have lived in Delhi/NCR all my life. I visit Nagaland regularly. Last was for two weeks back in 2022. It’s a lovely place and worth a visit - I love it more than Mizoram. I should post more pics. February is the best time to visit. It’s when the ‘hidden’ guns come out 😉 - auto, semi, or classic - during a festival (forgot the name).

    Managers are being given incentives on who can get their team to come back to office. Regular team outings and shit. It’s surprisingly working. It’s also a ‘No No’ to work remotely for those <25 years old - “How will we build future leaders?” is the rationale.
