I'm an attorney -- a Patent attorney with experience in copyright, data law, and contract law -- currently working for IBM. I'm a big fan of software freedom and think federated networks are part of the secret sauce that will make the internet right.

In my spare time, I enjoy judging moot court competitions, watching absurdist comedy, and writing about menswear.

I love loafers. And I especially love horsebit loafers. So I put together a detailed guide to buying some.

This is not a simple list of brands; in this article, I will explore why
you might pick one type of horsebit loafer or another, explain each
recommendation in a fair bit of depth, and explain what types of loafers
to avoid.

This is The Horsebit Loafer Buying Guide:

Golf le Fleur—Tyler the Creator's brand—is having a "spring cleaning" sale.

The brand is bright, fun, and preppy. They have a lot of bright, colorful pieces, kilted tassel and kilted chain loafers made by solovair, camo mohair vests, pleated shorts, unique outerwear, and all sorts of other fun stuff.

You should check it out.

This is your regular reminder that most communications on Telegram are not end-to-end encrypted. Channels and groups are never end-to-end encrypted and 1-on-1 messages are only end-to-end when explicitly enabled.

DanHakimi,
@DanHakimi@mastodon.social avatar

@evacide On top of that, they do almost nothing to moderate public, unencrypted chats, literally allowing broadcast channels that are openly run by terrorist groups to continue to glorify violence: https://medium.com/@DanHakimi/telegram-is-a-breeding-ground-for-extremists-scammers-and-terrorists-17e6c27978db

DanHakimi,
@DanHakimi@mastodon.social avatar

@just_a_rock @evacide they pay lip service, they apparently have a list somewhere of extremists they've banned, but they've also published statements saying that they feel like their Al Qassam Brigade channels are fine.

Latest comic: Where's the crisis?

(Drawn before events of last week, but still relevant!)

#protest #columbia #gaza #college #firstamendment #cartoon #uspol

DanHakimi,
@DanHakimi@mastodon.social avatar

@stupidjim @jensorensen they justified the war because there's a bunch of genocidal maniacs on their border who actively targeted civilians, shot up a music festival and raped and killed everybody they could, put babies in ovens, took civilian hostages, refused to give them back, and still refuse every offer of a ceasefire.

DanHakimi,
@DanHakimi@mastodon.social avatar

@jensorensen there's nothing peaceful about these encampments. Destruction of property aside, they actively bar peaceful students from spaces they have the right to use and go around calling for the genocide of Jews. They took over a building and held a staffer hostage inside. They were not peaceful.

Gaza has not been destroyed, and Rafah has obviously not been flattened.

But yes, there's a humanitarian crisis in Gaza. I sure hope Hamas stops firing rockets at aid crossings and docks.

DanHakimi,
@DanHakimi@mastodon.social avatar

@stupidjim @jensorensen the subject was the justification for the war in Gaza. I explained the justification for the war in Gaza.

Zelenskyy isn't willing to give up land to Russia. I stand with him on that. Putin is the one who is not being reasonable.

DanHakimi,
@DanHakimi@mastodon.social avatar

@stupidjim @jensorensen I hope for peace and safety for innocent civilians as well. I suppose we have different ideas about how to get there, but I appreciate the ultimate goal.

If you've ever found yourself missing the "good old days" of the , what is it that you miss? (Interpret "it" broadly: specific websites? types of activities? feelings? etc.) And approximately when were those good old days?

No wrong answers — I'm working on an article and wanted to get some outside thoughts.

DanHakimi,
@DanHakimi@mastodon.social avatar

@molly0xfff the decentralization. The internet wasn't about gaming a social media site's algorithm, it was about... well, it was about gaming Google Search, but at least it felt more even than this.

I've been posting some reels on Instagram about men's style. I make fun of silly things I see fashion influencers do and say. I know some people are here to get away from mainstream social media, but if you're interested in my reels, check them out:

Journalists: Here's a news org covering the simple reality of the Trump/Republican assault on American democracy. The lede, in the Nevada Current, says:

"Donald Trump and the Republican National Committee on Friday announced a “100,000 person strong” program designed to harass election officials and their employees and discredit democracy in Nevada and a dozen other states."

Try some unabashed truth-telling, journalists. It's liberating.

If you think Russia is bad for invading a country, wait till you find out what the US has been doing in the last 80 years.

DanHakimi,
@DanHakimi@mastodon.social avatar

@mdylanbell @stupidjim he's a tankie. his concept of decency to blame every problem the world over on the US, or, in cases where he can't, draw a false equivalency and decide that Russia/China/Iran/etc. is pretty much fine given that false equivalency, but the US is not. The issue doesn't matter; the people don't matter; all that matters is demonizing "the West."

This is terrifying. These “Constitutional sheriffs” are fascistic petty tyrants who believe they’re accountable to nobody. And their wingnut “posses,” hopped up on conspiracy theories, are gonna harass and intimidate voters. Or worse.

DanHakimi,

@JoshuaHolland this is going to be a hard problem to solve... even if Republicans are willing to cooperate in solving it. A large, philosophically driven wave of armed treasonous rebels acting under color of law are threatening our election system and our society. Federal supremacy is a cornerstone of our system of government. How will we get them under control?

@toothpaste_sandwich I'll never understand why people upvote these random, pointless infographics. Most of these are, obviously, ridiculous made-up nonsense made to fill out a listicle with a number you've never seen before. Don't worry, if there's a worthwhile way to tie a scarf, you already know about it.

@Flipboard is joining the fediverse, and has recently federated my Flipboard profile, @DanHakimi. There, you should eventually be able to find profiles for each of my boards, like @men (okay, their profile naming convention didn't handle apostrophes that well).

This is a good thing. The power of the fediverse lies in positive network effects; a larger network here helps us overcome the need for centralized networks.

DanHakimi,
@DanHakimi@mastodon.social avatar

@Flipboard @DanHakimi @men I'm always happy to post more to the fediverse, and post things that aren't about the fediverse itself. I don't post about clothing on Mastodon because there are hundreds of people clicking through to my men's style blog. I post here because I think the fediverse needs more conversations about a wide variety of topics. Flipboard's fediverse integration instantly gives us thousands of experts who can help with exactly that. So I'm happy.

DanHakimi,
@DanHakimi@mastodon.social avatar

@CultureDesk I wouldn't mind if Derek Guy came over to the fediverse, but until he does, I'm happy to be "we have Derek Guy at home."

DanHakimi,
@DanHakimi@mastodon.social avatar

@Quintus Yeah, I get some discomfort from a compliment, like... I'm not sure what to do, do I thank them? Do I just say "I know!" Do I express humility? I don't believe half the compliments I get.

Getting into clothes has helped. I am proud of my style, it's unique, and I have enough of the haters, I am tired of them. When people compliment my style, it's not mere flattery—it's a statement of mutual understanding that fosters a deeper connection. And we can talk about the clothes.

Canoe Club carries clothing from a lot of cool clothing brands like Engineered Garments, Wythe, FrizmWORKS, Auralee, RRL, and Kapital. They are also building a community in Boulder, Colorado and on Discord, for those who really want to engage with them. And they have a pretty solid podcast.
