Does anyone have sci-fi book suggestions that are more sci-fi utopia and world building?

I have grown up on sci-fi dystopia and I love it but since we're currently living in one I want to read something uplifting. Collection of short stories would be awesome too!

I've been seeing daffodils in bloom since the beginning of the week. This one was just opening up. It's unusual, where I live, to see daffodils quite this early in the year.
It should gladden my heart to be able to welcome the spring, but they're just making me feel uneasy about climate change...

Balance of such complex interconnected systems as Earth is dynamic and continual. Not an end-state.

Today is #Imbolc, the day between Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox in the Northern hemisphere. The year-old apple seedling in a kitchen window sprouted a tiny green leaf. Too early if they were outdoors. Though with #ClimateChange and our warmest Winter, is it? Meanwhile...

In the US, tomorrow is #GroundHogDay. Just saw a large groundhog who seemed wide awake run down the lane. In this "unseasonable" warm, wet weather, cycles are screwed up.

Tonight I connect with Brighid to renew vows before Her and set intentions for the coming year.

I love being part of a global tradition. Years ago, I was in so-called Australia in August celebrating my Northern hemi #Lughnasadh with Southern hemi #Witches celebrating #Imbolc. We felt the energy flow hemisphere to hemisphere, creating lovely patterns. Talk about feeling the cycles! From seeds awakening to harvest season.

One of my projects for 2024: attempting to apply #RightsOfNature to the land we tend as a native plant sanctuary. If the land has legal personhood, they would be so much easier to protect and support for years to come, not dependent on particular humans.

If anyone has experience with this--especially in US-- and wants to offer assistance, let me know.

I'm reading @pluralistic 's latest, Lost Cause. I'd call it cerebral #solarpunk as it includes all the conversations, all the arguments involved with creating regenerative and fossil-free communities right now (or near future) when some people cling to climate denial and fascism. Frighteningly realistic...I don't yet know how it ends and if the author poses a workable way to overcome a violent opposition. (No spoilers, please! )

In conversation w a friend, she was surprised when I said we won't have electricity after social collapse. She asked "why? What happens to electricity?"

I had to then explain that infrastructure needs people to maintain and if things fall apart, nobody will keep the generators going or the wires in check. She seemed surprised by this.

Is this why people don't seem worried about what's coming? They have no idea???

I was trying to hide my shock that I had to explain this to someone who isn't a child. I think I take too much for granted and assume too much of people's ability to be logical.

Now her obsession with social issues at the expense of makes sense. I was always wondering how someone on the left would not care about collapse. I have tried to explain before that as much as I share her concerns about the many dire issues that do need dealing with, none of it matters if climate change causes collapse. Then we won't have social housing, or equity, or any of the other things she cares about. (she was even part of a group that protested demanding "affordable gas")

Her look of shock finally helped me realize that she has absolutely no idea what means. No idea. I've been arguing with her all these years and she's had no idea.

I don't even know what to say.

There's no way she's the only one. Lots of well intentioned people say "yes climate is important but....".

I am here to tell you that none of those other issues will even exist in the face of climate and social collapse.

I don't know if the average person can even imagine the number of deaths that we are facing when the society we built loses electricity.
