I keep saying we need more hopeful climate stories and that will only happen is IF WE WRITE THEM.

I highly encourage you to write your own story for Grist's Imagine 2200 contest.

Not only do you have a chance to win money, you'll have gone through the exercise of envisioning a better world.

Be brave! We won’t change the world if we all stay inside our comfort zones.

A workshop built around multiple ways to use the sun, including several giant fresnel lenses beaming light down from the observatory-style dome on the roof, with the light regulated by the computer-controlled, irising shutter. With the focal point at a reliable, known location, they could use the heat for everything from 3d printing by sintering sand into glass, to forging or smelting metal, to operating a sort of CNC plasma cutter.

Was nun? Das fehlt mit bitterlich und ich hab das Gefühl, dass da immer weniger kommt.

Momentan scheint #SolarPunk & Serien wie Extrapolations da noch am interessantesten.

Readers only want dystopia or escapism?

How about a vision of a future worth fighting for? How about a realistic take on the world we're living in but with a pathway out of the mess?

Someday, they'll decide you're ready for such things. Probably not until readers create another breakaway success like KSR's Ministry for the Future or Becky Chambers' Monk & Robot.

In the meantime, I'm making a list where you can find such things...

Is this the most Solar Punk Building ever? (Apart from the missing Solar Panels!) Definitely one of my absolute favorites.
#SolarPunk #Urbanism #OWGF #Architecture #Trees #hopeforthefuture

The streeps in solid wood that floor the terraces filter the sunlight in summer, while in winter they let the light break into the house. The wainscot in larch shingles is a sort of soft and vibrant surface. The metal structures look like trees and they “grow” from the groundfloor to the roof while holding up the wooden planking of the terraces: they become entwined with the vegetation to form a unique façade.
Additionally, another 50 trees planted in the courtyard help residents feel closer to nature, all while cutting down on pollution, producing more fresh oxygen and dampening noise.
All but a few of the apartments have two balconies, one facing into the green oasis, the other out to the street. Inside, the layout of the rooms is left to the owner, choosing whether they want to embrace an introverted tree house or see the contrast of the gritty street below.
Littered with over 150 trees and boasting a stunning asymmetrical architecture, 25 Verde - an apartment complex in Turin, Italy. With its roots of steel and concrete, this apartment building rises like a forest or urban oasis.

In #solarpunk news, there’s someone locally on our Craigslist selling used 315W solar panels for $80 each. They have 30 of them — that’s 9.4kW! I just don’t have the space to store them, nor a vehicle to move them; and we already filled our roof with solar. I don’t think our tiny urban lot can host more large panels, just some small accessory lights.
