The question of whether BEV's actually save substantial carbon compared to ICE cars is a little more complicated than you think, and there are loud-voiced deniers. Here’s a report that digs deep on the issue and has the numbers: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/newsletters/2024-03-21/evs-are-much-lower-emitting-than-combustion-cars

@timbray The real problem is that EVs encourage the same poor urban design patterns as their predecesdors. At least we're starting to finally see models like the BYD Seagull that are small, light and cheap although their introduction into the North American market will be - shall we say - fraught.

@nic @smallcircles You can try adding the Privacy Re-direct extension to your browser which should forward YT URLs to Freetube:

BTW. You need to go into the advanced settings and toggle "Use Freetube over Invidious when possible"

Report: I’m being sealioned. As in, real actual sea lions are invading the docks at our family's summer cabin. It’s nice that nature is coming back… sometimes. Sea Lions are noisy, smelly, smart, lazy, and defecate disgustingly and in massive quantities.

If my Dad were still living he’d say “Huh, no problem really, just get a rifle, you’ll need a fairly big one.”

scott,
@scott@denizens.social avatar

@timbray Yeah we're being sea-lioned in ts'ukw'um too. But also grey whaled - just saw one swim off towards your place after a feed here.

scott,

@timbray Hmm... could have been a humpback I suppose.

scott,
@scott@denizens.social avatar

@timbray Thanks. This one was mostly breaching and I didn't see the tail out of the water in spite of being within about 200 metres on a paddleboard. It did come up with its head well out of the water with a mouthful of fish on one ocassion .
