Yes Ada said they'll be moving off Iceshrimp over to Sharkey in the new year, and over time adding back Hajkey functionality like pruning repeats of the same boost, and being able to turn boosts on/off for a timeline.
Those 2 features and to a lesser extent wanting improved follow management with a lot of follows, are the only 3 things I really miss from mastodon when using the Forkeys I've tried so far.
"Would it be cool if <convoluted pipe dream feature> existed?"
✅ Ppl actively trying to understand & discuss your point even if they think you're probably wrong.
✅ Ppl suggesting part of what you outline can already be done with tools you didn't know about.
✅ Ppl mentioning cool developments already underway for similar stuff.
✅ Great conversations.
✅ Learn stuff.

Now that we have shelled ourselves for the first time in our history, it’s important to remember that “falling missile debris” is now no longer a valid excuse.
I thank my trolls for their continued mental gymnastics.

PPE scams. Bibby Stockholm. Dido Harding's Can't Test, Won't Trace, Don't Isolate program. Compulsory purchase orders on HS2 land then cancelled project. Covid Loans etc. So much of this all over

Surprising thing is much of the criminal gangs behind farightwing politics are actually fairly compact, very international & organised to operate in an international fashion. Quite a lot of them pose for selfies at each others fundraisers.
Honestly, the way #Threads is evolving right now, I can absolutely understand why so many Mastodon instances are already blocking Threads before it becomes part of the #Fediverse.
For over a year now, I've known how social media can be and how social it really could be. In less than two weeks Threads has managed to become a brown swamp of anger and hate speech.
If this hits the Fediverse, then all the moderators' work over the last few years will have been for nothing.
Threads is simply turning into a racist, trans-hostile, homophobic swamp due to a lack of moderation.
As a moderator of my Mastodon instance, I was one of the few who was against blocking threads directly without having seen anything of it. Now I would very much vote in favour. (And I'm glad we voted for the block already together with the community)
A lot really needs to happen for Threads to earn a place in the Fediverse. If it will ever happen. (Doubt)
I want floating voters on threads to not exclusively marinate in a brown soup of rightwing diarrhoea, but actually hear some progressive viewpoints in order to not vote fash.
I want threads users to see existence of no ads, no algorithm, community social.
I have yet to see anything resembling any sort of active outreach plan to swing that from the #Fedi.
So some servers federating with Threads in order to open escape windows seems solid.
@me_the_fl00f@kaiserkiwi
I have had a year of conversations where almost everyone mentions or agrees how it would be generally better for society if more people especially floating/swing voters left corporate social.
I have had extremely few conversations about HOW that actually happens.
Invitation links for contacts could have an option during their singup to duplicate the invitee's follows. Thus offering a 1 click timeline populating feature for directly invited contacts. @sb @kaiserkiwi
@sb
Yes of course threads users will experience ads & algorithm. That's sort of the point. I would be very happy if I could auto-attach a signature image if I reply to threads stuff (much like posting in forums) that says something like
No Ads. No Algorithms burying my posts. Because my account is not on Threads.net
@kommaKucken
That's a great link, thank you. It does make the case for the Ark Servers without relying on data, which is probably being hoovered up regardless.
However it doesn't invalidate the cases that exist for other servers federating with Threads because the reasons to do so are really important.
Swing voters denied exposure to progressive voices will vote fash.
Not losing votes to fash is the best way to actually protect minorities & society as a whole. @sb@me_the_fl00f@kaiserkiwi
He signs up. It would be awesome if he gets an extra timeline that is his default arrival experience that could be say local plus the follows of the person who invited him.
He hasn't had to pick a server, or follow anyone yet. He's not done any of the 'hard' stuff, just enter and email and a password. Yet he's got a busy curated timeline right from the word go.
