“We don’t want to do anything that weakens our position with the Lower Basin states when we’re looking at the big river issues,” Chandler-Henry said. “Even though this task force is within the state of Colorado, we have a big responsibility to the Upper Basin as well.”

Colorado officials argue that overuse in the Lower Basin — Arizona, California and Nevada — is a primary driver of water shortages in the Colorado River Basin.

@colo_lee Of course it is! The lower basin states are insane, thinking they can use unlimited amounts of Colorado River water and not giving a damn about Colorado residents

No one, not one person, should live in a place without sufficient natural water sources! That means their iffy 9 inches of rain a year doesn't count for their stupidly growing population! WTF?!

Happy August! For today's tidbit of point your Wikipedia at Roman emperor Gaius Augustus. Yes, that month was named by him. Prior, it was known as Sextilis: the 6th month of the year. The Roman calendar used to start with March. Augustus' predecessor (and uncle) Julius Ceasar had introduced calendar changes to add January and February. When Ceasar got assassinated, it ended the Roman Republic. Augustus inherited the power and started the Roman Empire.

July 2023. The West Side Book Shop is run by an elderly gentleman sitting at the front of the shop at an ancient wooden desk. The shop is a hodgepodge of used books and old prints--some in shelves and some stacked on the floor. It's an absolute delight. I never leave without a pile of books that I discovered randomly.

I've been trying to find the right way to articulate this-- but the folks on the right have it backwards about who is driven by "white guilt" --

This impulse to cover up and distort the history of slavery reeks of shame. It's, frankly, weird. Nobody has perfect ancestors, what sort of crisis of identity leads one to lie about the past.

It's just the things that happened. You learn about them you learn from them. You do better. Don't make it so emotional and personal.

RiVive is a new brand of naloxone nasal spray, offered by a non-profit. It's the best medicine for reversing opioid overdose

If they offer it for free, it will truly be a game changer!

No one I wrote a script for Narcan after their ER visit bought it because it's so expensive

Some users still won't go into a pharmacy and ask for it, but family members will! This will do so much good here in Appalachia

The Banned Book Club is a project of the Digital Public Library of America. You download their Palace e-reader and choose Banned Book Club as your #library. It gives you access to all (most?) of them plus others

I guess if you live in a liberal state you might not need it but it's worth checking out

If were convicted and jailed and actually elected, would Republicans in Congress finally be willing to impeach and oust him? If you think yes, ask yourself who his likely VP would be and how terrible it would be to have that person ascend to the presidency.

We went out of town recently and some friends came by each day for cat care. We wanted to make sure that no one shooed the boys off of their favorite kitchen counter, so we left a note.

(Honestly, we left way too many notes. But I can't help it. I get so anxious about leaving them!)

@sparge Nope not too many. I have at least 5 post-it notes hung around every room, 15 in the kitchen, and a list of step by step instructions and emergency numbers on the fridge. I reuse them each time I have to go away from my kitties

I'm a bit of a control freak about my furbabies, but totally ok with it. The people I'd trust with them appreciate my detailed instructions

Kitties thrive with consistency and we are good cat parents for helping to provide that :-)

@jake4480 @sparge Haha! My old cat Mica came everywhere with me, though he never took to the leash so he was happily an indoors kitty. He had lived in 15 states by the time he passed away at 20 yo. Did I get some strange looks bringing him and his stuff into hotels etc? Sure did. And cared not a whit!

But there were some trips that would've been unsafe or unpleasant for him, so trustworthy cat sitters have always been a must. And notes. Lots of detailed notes :-)

He doesn’t seem to be unwell though, so this is probably just more of his wilful mind game manipulation of his primate servant 😸🤷‍♂️

I hate how they instinctively hide any sign of pain or sickness, so I maintain a high degree of suspicion about atypical behaviors. Sounds like you do too- sign of a good kitty parent!
