Silicon Valley has just one service they sell, available to the highest bidder: exploitation.

It might look like a phone, a laptop, a social network, or even a car but it’s always just the same thing, decorated differently: a mechanism by which to addict you, extract value from you, and exploit you for profit.

If You’ve Got a New Car, It’s a Data Privacy Nightmare
"Bad news: your car is a spy. If your vehicle was made in the last few years, you’re probably driving around in a data-harvesting machine that may collect personal information as sensitive as your race, weight, and sexual activity. Volkswagen’s cars reportedly know if you’re fastening your seatbelt and how hard you hit the brakes.
That’s according to new findings from Mozilla’s *Privacy Not Included project. The #nonprofit found that every major car brand fails to adhere to the most basic privacy and security standards in new internet-connected models, and all 25 of the brands Mozilla examined flunked the organization’s test. #Mozilla found brands including #BMW, #Ford, #Toyota, #Tesla, and #Subaru collect #data about drivers including race, facial expressions, weight, health information, and where you drive. Some of the cars tested collected data you wouldn’t expect your car to know about, including details about sexual activity, race, and immigration status, according to Mozilla."

The UK is now building a national system to allow police to access and inspect people's internet history

In 2016, the government passed the Investigatory Powers Act, also known as the Snooper's Charter

The law says telecoms companies can be made to collection people's 'internet connection records' and store them for up to a year

Internet connection records are essentially the websites you visit, but not the individual pages upon them

For the last few months, the UK has been creating a 'national' system that will allow law enforcement to access and 'filter' internet connection records

An initial police trial of the records has found “significant operational benefit”

Lot's of people asking me why I filed a complaint against #YouTube for their illegal deployment of #spyware to detect #adblockers instead of simply paying for YouTube Premium.

The answer is simple - YouTube Premium has no ads but Google still use it to profile you for advertising on their other products.

I refuse to pay for any service which doesn't respect my fundamental rights.

And so should everyone else, because until they do, Alphabet will continue with their illegal #surveillance.

🚨 With the 'click of one button' the UK passport database becomes a criminal database 🚨

Plugging biometric data gathered for the purpose of passport control into an expanding system of facial recognition is a game-changer.

This brazen abuse of power will destroy privacy safeguards and the presumption of innocence, with everyone fair game in a vast, unfettered police surveillance network.

All without public consultation or scrutiny.

Guys, your cars are collecting data on your sexual activity. You all consented to this and more (or as some people like to say, you got EULA roofied). How is this even a thing?? How will our sexual activity help improve the performance of the car or the car maker's services? Doesn't matter if it's a Nissan or a Tesla. Tesla employees are literally turning your camera recordings into internal company intranet memes! This timeline keeps getting worse and worse. #privacy #surveillance #capitalism

If you want to receive from arbitrary mail servers, please do think of switching to a mail provider less evil and less harmful to the whole ecosystem.

If I'd have to choose one myself, I'd probably try out at the moment. But I don't have personal experience with that so far. However, they seem to have the right attitude and philosophy. ✉️

I am trying to move as many of my casual browsing as possible to Tor to reduce my fingerprint. Not to "hide" but to become even more harder to track by nasty, disgusting #corporations.
Reading news, I feel like they became more shameless recently so I despise more their attempts to squeeze and monetize every bit of #data they touch. And I am willing to starve them of my data further than before.
If they are ready to break the laws and count EU GDPR fines as business costs I guess data are valuable. So why not keep this precious thing for myself? :blobcat_amused:

If some pages will block me, it may be signal for me they aren't respecting users and maybe I should stop visit them :blobCat_devil:
