I got to go kayaking today! I’m very sore from hauling the kayaks 300 yards to the water, and the bursitis in my wrist is acting up from paddling, but it was worth it!
Picture is from my perspective in the kayak on the waters of Lake Sammamish. In the far distance, the snow-capped dome of Mt. Rainier is visible. The sky is blue with soft wisps of clouds. The temperature was 78°F with a gentle breeze.
Newest addition to the #kayak family: a SeaEagle 473rl
We got it as a travel boat, when we don’t want to haul 2 sea kayaks around. I have been waiting for a maker to make a tandem kayak with drop-stitch floor and hull.
First shakedown was on a local lake. Put it in the sea this morning.
It handles way better than I expected. Turns on edge (without the skeg in place), impressive secondary stability. The high-back seats are taking some getting used to, since we usually paddle sea kayaks.
A trip to the lake for a little kayaking is one of my favorite things to do! The colorful reflections on the water really captured my eye. What summer activities do you love?
I've been searching for a Fediverse/threadiverse community on Lemmy/Kbin for paddling sports (kayaking, canoeing, rafting, SUP-ing etc) but I haven't managed to find one yet. It's such a shame because I love seeing people's paddling adventures on the different paddling/kayaking subreddit. I don't have the capacity to make and...

See - this is where Open Social is behind. I had to find out that a #whale “swallowed” 2 people on a #Kayak from Twitter:
(h/t: dieworkwear over on Twitter)
I'm about to go off for a weekend running the #Lochsa in #Idaho. River is running at about 11,000 cfs, which will be some of the biggest water I've paddled. I'm ready, but I'm about sixteen degrees of nervous/excited/anxious. Here's what I'm in for:
#Introduction#Thread
My wife can't lift a corner of a boat.
I'm not a big person. My boats are tiny so I can manage alone. I've made carts & slips to put them in the ocean myself. My wife & I venture into the #100WildIslands off #Halifax area of #NovaScotia. I publish a little #TravelBlog of each new adventures, to bait all of you who #kayak or #boat.
You'll see me post photos of River Otters in harbour, seals following us around, Mackerel fishing, coastlines & Islands in my feed #Boating
@rdm has inspired me to finally do an #introduction - I think he's been on Mastodon less than 24 hours, and me, well, I've been active a little while. Better late than never?
Kaya, nganyang kwerl leece, wer ngany Whadjak #Nyoongar boodja-k nyininy. I give my respect to the Nyoongar people, and to the Elders of the past, present and those who are to come.
For tens of thousands of years they have lived, worked and played and cared for the land of South West Australia.
They have been very kind to share their #noongarlanguage and their culture with me and I deeply appreciate that.
Likewise my respect goes out to the Elders of First Nations everywhere.
Hello, my name is leece, and I live on Whadjuk Nyoongar boodja. I have a passion for nature and #citizenscience and am a moderator for the Western Shield Camera Project on Zooniverse.
Pronoun wise she/her is fine although I think baal/baalap is better. I'm an #artist - I have a Diploma in Fine Art (sculpture) but mostly 2d these days.
An otter in Santa Cruz is hassling surfers — and stealing their boards (www.npr.org)
Surfers and paddlers in Santa Cruz might want to look out for a highly aggressive otter that’s been bullying people off their boards and kayaks!...
