Proposal for an open source/FOSS edition of ChromeOS:
-Fdroid and Aurora Store as the app stores
-Vivaldi as the default browser (specially made for ChromeOS)
-Google integration replaced with Nextcloud
-Search replaced with DuckDuckGo, Qwant, or a pre-customized SearXNG
-Play Services replaced with microG
-WINE integration (if possible)
Don't know what else to add actually but I would like some more ideas if possible! Also, this is just a concept
My network (#plusnet) shut down and I've moved to #idMobile who resell #ThreeMobileNetwork which has rubbish reception. They say enable wifi-calling which is available in Samsung Phone app but I'm pretty sure tells Samsung about every call I make.
Until needing this feature I've used Simple Dialler from #fDroid which is good but doesn't support wifi calling
So #Mastodon isn't that complicated at all, the only thing that doesn't work is that the official phone app on #LineageOS from #fdroid probably would need installed google-apps... Which ain't gonna happen.
Well, can't have everything.
#Tusky seems to be functional enough for light use on the phone.
Anyone know why @fdroidorg marks the @Mastodon android app with "Anti-Features" as "This app promotes or depends entirely on a non-free network service"?
Tibor Kaputa spends his days developing the Simple range of apps for Android-based OS and makes them available free of charge on F-Droid. I use a bunch of them and they're fantastic. Please consider trying out his apps and making a contribution to support his work:
The current version of #Mozilla#Firefox is 125.0.2 #Librewolf is still stuck at version 124.0.1 & #MullBrowser from #FDroid is at 124.2.
Not sure, why both of them are not getting any further updates? Have they already given up? Time to switch back to vanilla #Firefox?
This week in F-Droid (TWIF) was published again :fdroid:
We try to explain the "app was developed for an older version of android and can not be upgraded automatically" banner for some apps (including F-Droid itself).
Also, we talk a bit about the current localization problems on our website.
On the apps side:
new Aurora Store version
Element and SchildiChat were updated to fix two vulnerabilities.
Strava alternative that is open source and privacy focused, it can even just be a private route logger with no cloud. Would be awesome if available on #fdroid
Does anyone of you have dedicated #Pixelfed accounts? If so, what app do you use on #Android to access it? I feel I'm having a lot of functionality issues with the #PixelDroid app I've installed via #Fdroid, though it seems to be updated regularly... #Fediverse#fedihelp
(Should probably also check on the @pixeldroid channels for help or issuing bug reports, which I honestly did not do just yet) #foss
We are happy to announce that DAVx5 4.3.15 is now available (also on #fdroid@fdroidorg).
Great parts have been rewritten to Compose and (will be finalized in 4.3.16)
We've changed how we use various sync types, resulting in much less used system sync quota. This means a much more reliable scheduled background sync. Hope you enjoy the new version! 😀
#Conversations
A beta version of 2.15 arrived at F-Droid. It looks great and now uses Material 3 theme. Be aware: To install this version you need to explicitly select it in F-Droid.
#monocleschat
A new minor version has been released which brings GIF import, compatible stickers and other improvements.
#Snikket
A new version has been released bringing fixes and improvements from Conversations to Snikket users.
