2/2 We as humans love #iconography and apps with fun icons. The more fashionable the better. Icons really, really, really, really matter. We know because for a year we ignored Fediverse, on #FDroid it had an almost satanic ritual icon. On a good day with jarring colours.
Icons matter.
In 2021 we began work on a replacement. In 2022 we finally arrived at a good design with a (2/3)
F-Droid Basic just got released for the first time. Built from the same code as regular @fdroidorg, it comes with a reduced feature set (no nearby share and no panic feature). Also it targets Android 13 and will soon be able to do unattended updates.
Guess I have to use my range for something good for a change. Please read and #RT if the #Fediverse is important to you.
A few days ago, @Gargron, maintainer of #Mastodon and the big instance mastodon.social, wrote a blogpost explaining how the official app will soon feature his instance as a default.
Voices of the community weren't heard. He even doubled-down on it.
We have to prevent this change.
Please Eugen, #DontDoTheElon.
It would be cool if #FDroid took the opposite approach to Google Play App Signing, by using their build system to create a code transparency key that developers could then bundle with their app, and then developers could in turn sign that bundle with their own signing key.
That way F-Droid could distribute apps that they’ve verified reproducible builds for (and check the CT signature in the F-Droid app), without having to sign the app with their own key—a common complaint about the default F-Droid repo.
Using #relatica with recent #Friendica versions and the web client in parallel already is quite a pleasant experience. Now all it probably needs is notifications to replace Mastodon-API clients here. 🙂
@calculsoberic@molly0xfff I am enthusiastic about blockchain, but I know there are issues like with everything we as humans ever made. I am the most enthusiastic about privacy coins. Even more than regular ones! However, and here comes the interesting part, seems loke #GNU is actively developing an electronic financial system that is not blockchain based and is private by default. It is called GNU #Taler. It is available from #Fdroid.
Do you sometimes just want one tool from the #AndroidSDK in a container or VM, and don't want to deal with the whole pain of setting up #Java and everything? Try the #FDroid sdkmanager instead of the official one. For example, apt-get install sdkmanager then sdkmanager platform-tools. Plus this verifies all packages using apt-get style GPG-signed index with SHA256 values. Useful in #research on #Android#malware#tracking etc. In pypi, Debian, Ubuntu, and https://gitlab.com/fdroid/sdkmanager/
Maybe not a big deal, but it seems like a new level for #FDroid: people paying money to promote based on F-Droid's principals, in this case, opt-out data collection is tracking.
Just because some people now think #fdroid wanted to sabotage Mastodon or something: the post in question was primarily posted, to inform users that they have to do additional manual steps, to receive updates for the app in the future. Which is unfortunate, but needed because of Androids security model.
#WireGuard becomes the first VPN app on #FDroid to be built reproducibly! This means that WireGuard on F-Droid is now guaranteed to be 100% (bit-by-bit) equal to the WireGuard the developer builds.
If you're using WireGuard from F-Droid, please export your tunnels and re-install to switch to the developer's signature and continue receiving updates.
Trying new things while hoping to find some clients that actually care to respond 🙄
Among them #Android development.
At least I don't have to use Java!
Although I can't escape #JVM (but I already had contact to #Groovy via Jenkins).
@mlemweb Since it will be about sewing I was wondering whether you would generally be interested in testing?
The APK would be loaded onto the Android smartphone via ADB during development.
The emulator freezes my laptop.
I hope to release to #FDroid one day.
I can recommend installing #AirGuard app for #Android to detect #AirTags that might be tracking you. Having it installed for months it suddenly alarmed me today when walking with a group. #FreeSoftware and available on #Fdroid
