What I love about our museum: even these tightest corners show objects that make life easier or save lives, from magic and physics to real emergencies. (More in Alt texts)

🧵 1/3 The mixture of #museum and #culturalHeritage centre makes visitors of all generations happy. Yesterday we had a #cake competition for our special #chocolate exhibition. I spontaneously found myself on the jury, which had to try all the cakes in order to to give points. A calory heavy work (now you know, why many museums are closed on Mondays - we have to digest.😁 ) Then cakes and torts were slaughtered for the visitors.😋 Women of our association had baken the treasures. #volunteering
🧵 2/3 It is this mixture of #association and the official institution that makes the centre so lively. The building and cashiers belong to the region, everything else is done by an association of #volunteers. It has more members than villagers. We give #guidedTours, keep the #archives in order, repair items on display, organise #exhibitions and two international #festivals, show #handicrafts and bake #cakes. The cakes served in the cafeteria on Sundays are always home-baked by the women on duty.
Artist Dani Gal has a collection of 700 spoken-word vinyl records that tell a partial history of the 20th century, from Gandhi and Goebbels to Golda Meir and Gamal Nasser. Ahead of a new exhibition at Vancouver's Polygon Gallery, he spoke to Montecristo's Peter Watts about what he's learned from these records, and the stories that aren't told.
The only complete surviving cartoon by Michelangelo will go on show in an exhibition opening at the British Museum this spring (Michelangelo: the last decades, 2 May to 28 July), focused on the final 30 years of the Renaissance master's life.
The show aims to switch attention away from his youthful period of production, throwing light on works made in the years leading up to his death at 88 in 1564.
IndieWire's Carole V. Bell says that the movies many of us think of in terms of Black film are from the 1960s, at the earliest. But when curator Doris Berger looked through the archives of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, she found a treasure trove that dated back to the 1890s. She and National Museum of African American History and Culture film and photography curator Dr. Rhea Combs collaborated on “Regeneration: Black Cinema 1898 to 1971,” which is now on display at the Detroit Institute of Arts. Here's a look at what to expect from the exhibition, as well as where to start if you want to explore early Black movies.
"Not all miniatures are small … And not all small objects are miniatures," is written on the wall at a new exhibition at Boston's Museum of Fine Arts. "Tiny Treasures: The Magic of Miniatures" is an examination of the small-scale, with around 70 impeccably crafted works that span centuries, cultures and continents. Hyperallergic zooms in on the show.
On the conservation bench today, yes on Saturday for our once a month weekend opening, is a #book from 1552 for which I am writing an exhibition condition report.
The left endleaf is paper #ManuscriptWaste. Beneath the pastedown and just visible at the tail is a parchment manuscript #fragment.
The Museum of Fine arts in Houston has a new exhibition of Robert Frank and Todd Webb's photography from the trip that inspired the former's famous book "The Americans." To celebrate, Clark Winter, a longtime friend of Frank, has shared with Blind magazine previously unseen footage where the photographer spoke about his book, and the morality and cruelty of photographing people.
At an upcoming installation in London's Tate Britain, you'll be able to eat the exhibits. Bobby Baker's An Edible Family in a Mobile Home will feature life-size sculptures of family members, made from sweet treats. The display is a replica of Baker's 1976 exhibition of the same name. “The whole of my life’s work stems from an early feeling of injustice, lack of opportunity and the undervaluing of care work," she told The Guardian.
Frederick Douglass is the latest subject of the One Life series at the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery. The exhibition includes the first photo of Douglass — the 19th century's most photographed American — as well as the handwritten ledger of his first enslaver, and portraits of other progressives of the time. Here's more on what to expect.
In 1991, Hannes Leopoldseder heard about a public building site with no designated use and immediately took steps to seize the opportunity. It was an ideal high visibitlity loaction in Linz: the so-called Donautor at the northern bridgehead of the Nibelungenbrücke, just across the Danube from the mainsquare. Several institutions were competing for this site and the final decision has not yet been made ...
An insight into how my colleagues and I prepared our current display at #LambethPalaceLibrary about archive material along with preservation and conservation considerations.
At this Harvard exhibition, the maps are real but the places on them aren’t
When Marge Simpson looks at a map of Springfield, what does she see? The Harvard Map Collection has the answer.

“This is the real #cancelCulture,” Henry wrote on his Instagram. “Banning #books, #exhibitions, anything that goes against these #fascist, #whiteSupremacist, #police#propaganda views. A complete joke. Not even a chance to represent my work and views. Everything just ignored to further maintain their narrative and rewrite of #history.”
