🌠 SpaceX satellites threaten to hide asteroids that pose danger to humanity | Technology | EL PAÍS English

"It’s difficult to say exactly how many asteroids will be lost… but preliminary results suggest that for every five near-Earth asteroids we discover, we lose one solely due to constellation interference. That’s if no mitigation measures are taken”

The International Astronomical Union demands that urgent action be taken against the uncontrolled proliferation of these devices. satellites make it difficult to search for objects at risk of impacting the Earth"

#PPOD: This Hubble Space Telescope image shows boulders ejected from the asteroid Dimorphos after the DART spacecraft slammed into it in September 2022. The bright object with a tail is Dimorphos, and the tiny white dots clustered around it are boulders ranging in size from 1 to 6.7 meters (3 to 22 feet) in diameter. Credit: NASA, ESA, D. An asteroid wanders through this image of galaxy UGC 12158 captured by the Hubble Space Telescope. Hubble took multiple exposures of the galaxy, causing the foreground asteroid to appear as a series of bright white dashes. The curved path is due to parallax as Hubble orbits the Earth.

The Advanced Composite Solar Sail System (ACS3) technology demonstrator launched on April 23, 2024.

It uses materials in its novel, lightweight booms that deploy from a . Data obtained from ACS3 will guide the design of future larger-scale composite solar sail systems that could be used for space weather early warning satellites, near-Earth reconnaissance missions, or communications relays.

Holy crap, that's a HUGE surprise and opens the possibility that signs of life could also be found!

"Asteroid Bennu may be a fragment of an ancient ocean world. That's still highly speculative. But it's the best lead I have right now to explain the origin of that material," principal investigator for OSIRIS-REx, Dante Lauretta of University of Arizona said.

☄️ Sample From Distant Asteroid Shows Signs of Originating on Ocean World
— Fururism

"He claims the thin and bright crust of Bennu's otherwise dark rock is made of a rare calcium and magnesium-rich phosphate, the same material that's been found to shoot from the vents on the surface of Saturn's moon Enceladus, a moon that's widely believed to be an ocean world with a vast reservoir of liquid water beneath a thick shell of ice."

If an #Asteroid (or similar) is flying directly towards #earth and is not supposed to hit earth on exactly that very calendar day today or in future, then this is actually good news: for most cases, an object needs to target a future position of the moving earth around the sun and not our current position. 🤓

Just sayin'.
