If you see a domain name ending in .ai that means the island of Anguilla got some money, as it is the owner of this country domain.
”For each domain registration, Anguilla’s government gets anywhere from $140 to thousands of dollars from website names sold at auctions, according government data.”
In 2023 just over 20% of the government’s total revenue came from these registrations.
”[…] the government used the money to provide free health care for citizens 70 and older, and it has committed millions of dollars to finish building a school and a vocational training center. The government has also allocated funds to improve its airport; doubled its budget for sports activities, events and facilities; and increased the budget for citizens seeking medical treatment overseas.”
The island was hit hard by a hurricane in 2017 and tourism essentially disappeared during the covid pandemic. The .ai domain revenue has been a welcome injection into the economy.
Now you can’t say I never talk about AI in a positive light 😉
@axbom If we were to continue your positive thinking, would that mean: If we want to do something about the country's extreme dependence on the #AI boom and #techbros, should we use ai #domains primarily for projects that criticise AI and expose AI-abuse? 😎 😇
"In 2021, C Palihapitiya -Dem Party megadonor -considered running for CA gov. on a mod.-sounding platform. He's gone full #MAGA -funding convicted FELON Trump -is BIZARRE & EXTREME. SF tech leader G Tan is closely aligned with B Srinivasan, who wants to purge Dems. Tan has depicted YC, where he’s CEO, as part of Srinivasan’s “NET state” mvt. -nightmarishly authoritarian." @gilduran https://www.sfchronicle.com/opinion/openforum/article/donald-trump-san-francisco-19495231.php
I am less and less scared AI "will become smarter than humans" and more and more afraid someone will opt to put an incompetent and hallucinating AI in charge of something it really shouldn't, like self flying planes or trains or healthcare.
If AI tech bros are going to steal content for their generative AI, perhaps poisoning the well with mislabeled images, incorrect responses, and injecting instructions in content is well within our rights to fight back.
We killed Crypto, we can kill this shit.
Share stories of ChatGPT fuck ups with your family and co-workers, keep mentioning how it's just 'fancy autocorrect' and the people behind this also made their social media shit.
We have the power within us to destroy the Tech Bros and their toxic little world, and we must.
I'm truly, deeply alarmed at how the tech industry is trying to insert itself in every human interaction, getting between humans in every possible relationship, and they think that's "better" while absolutely destroying everything that makes society work.
The answer is MORE human-to-human interaction not LESS. FFS.
(screenshot from a substack that landed in my inbox, but you can see this same ethos everywhere, including strained attempts to portray chatbots with "theories of the mind")
apparently today is the 25th anniversary of the release of The Flaming Lips' Soft Bulletin. Could be wrong. But anyway, putting it on, strikes me that they ahve mcuh more cogent thoughts about AI safety than any of the rationalists/techbros #ai#flaminglips#techbros#rationalists#rationalism
“The leak is a reminder that customers of nonconsensual porn makers are sharing their personal information with people who by definition don't respect other people's privacy, and that platforms like Patreon have their information as well.”
DIDN'T THE COURTS OR DoL RECENTLY SAY NDAs ARE ILLEGAL?
«I have seen the extremely restrictive off-boarding agreement that contains nondisclosure and non-disparagement provisions former OpenAI employees are subject to. It forbids them, for the rest of their lives, from criticizing their former employer. Even acknowledging that the NDA exists is a violation of it.»
the very fact that techbros made up a word to insult people not in on the scam "nocoiners" puts them on a par w incels who call men who actually make women consider having sex with them "chads"
With this big Tech Bros vs Artists thing brewing, the Tech Bros will lose.
Artists bring joy to our lives while Tech Bros have been spying on us all the time and trying so damn hard to normalise White Supremacy (a sample of the multitude of their crimes), .....we fucking hate you guys.
Take your dead eyes and cheek microphones and fuck the fuck off
Say what you will about AI, but among the applications I am looking forward to is the scraping and synthesis of every manufacturer's catalogs. Since there are no copyright issues, it will give rise to a massive database for materials, processes, and parts sourcing. This is a typical source document that exists all over the web to be scraped.
I bet if you formed an electric car company made only of people who previously worked for Tesla then quit in disgust, you could make a really good electric car company
Tech bros, thinking they could hurt the economy to help Trump, by firing 10 and twenty percent if random employees, AT GREAT COST, have let go thousands of people who should be bringing down the moronic tech bros with new companies and products,
From your mouth to the ears of every clever innovator fired.
May I just say that not being able to set your own fucking character limit on your own fucking Mastodon instance without having to fucking fork fucking Mastodon is a fucking pain in the fucking arse.
Thank you for listening and here’s wishing you a lovely day.
It does a lot of sane and interesting things, It was glissed because it was made by a bunch of #flossbros (too much leftist), then everybody called the experts and they came out with ActivityPub, which is a a W3C project, that means also the #TechBros are indirectly involved.
Maybe it is time to come back and rediscover it... 🤔
ALSO
i don't know what the hell people think is so great about the #Tesla aesthetic. they look like Mazda Miatas with a headache. then there's the spyware.
people are actually paying an apartheid-loving douche $60-$75,000 for a snitching Miata with an exploding headache and doors that won't open easily?
"Eight prominent U.S. newspapers owned by investment giant Alden Global Capital are suing OpenAI and Microsoft for copyright infringement, in a complaint filed Tuesday in the SDNY. On top of a similar case filed by NYT against both companies, the new suits add heft to publishers' claims."
