So, I'm re-encoding my Stargate SG-1 episodes in a bit better quality. The tracks on the Blurays are not always in the same order as the episodes, but I'm finding that I only need to watch a few seconds of the encoded video file to know which episode title it is.
Catching up on a missed film. M3GAN was fun! Feels a bit like a modern Chucky crossed with Ex Machina, a splash of Terminator and a few other android/AI sci-fi’s. 🤖 #horror#scifi#movie#film
Marla had been a gifted child. She graduated at age 13, got her master's degree at 15 and wrote an already groundbreaking piece as her PhD Thesis when she was 20. That was in the year 2089. ...
I like the convenience of the Books app, but Apple does that thing where I have to look at content depending on the current app store region. So, I wonder… What else is there?

Okay, #Bookstodon, I am going to shout this into the void and see if my next read might manifest itself.
These are four series that I’ve read in the last decade or so that have really blown my mind:
The Broken Earth, by the incomparable NK Jemisin.
The Machineries of Empire, by Yoon Ha Lee.
Teixcaalan, by Arkady Martine.
Imperial Raadch, by Ann Leckie.
Reading that list, is there a series of books that I absolutely have to read? Any recs spring to mind? #BookRecommendations#SciFi
Finally! I've set up everything, figured out the letter and pillar box cropping of every single episode, and calculated the season averaged AI upscale settings.
Now my computer will spend about 2 weeks upscaling 168 episodes of Star Trek Voyager to full HD. Just like I did with Deep Space Nine this summer. 😊
Despite its sensationalist pulpy title and #ColdWar premise, Jack Arnold's adaptation of the #RichardMatheson novel is an existentialist treatise.
The Incredible Shrinking Man (1957) plays with the understanding of what it means to be acknowledged as a human, and one's place in the world. The story is told through the eyes of the titular Shrinking Man – Scott Carey – who after being exposed to strange fog, finds himself increasingly lost in this world.
Started working on a new little MagicaCSG hard-surface modeling project.
One of the great things of working with MagicaCSG is that every element is non-destructive, so I can adjust the shapes, creases, colors et cetera at any time.
Tonight's viewing.
I will try very hard not to go into linguistic anthropology nerd mode afterwards but I can't promise anything. #NowShowing#Arrival#SciFi#WordNerd
As a UCLA student I was brought in for a test screening of Alien 3 (they got students all the time), which I thought was terrible, and I haven't watched the sequels since.
I'm curious now how well the ML model used in Topaz Video AI stands up to the upscale job Visual Entertainment Inc did for Stargate SG-1 for the Bluray boxset.
I still have my complete DVD boxset as well, so I've decided to run the Iris V2 model of TVAI on a couple of episodes and compare. The VEI upscale is pretty blurry, and in some places really bad. It can't hurt to try!
Cool to see writeup on a game that's already on my wishlist, Cobalt Core. It's on Switch, I may grab it there. I can't speak to if I like it yet, but I'm guessing I probably will. The genre is "sci-fi roguelike deckbuilder", which sounds odd but check the screenshots at these links- I kinda get it. I think it looks great - I dig weird strategy stuff like this sometimes. Now I'm even more psyched to play it.
I'm about half way through Star Trek Deep Space Nine, and just watched "Our Man Bashir". I spent most of that episode on my phone instead. 😅
I really can't stand holodeck/holosuite episodes. They are almost as bad as parallel universe with evil twins episodes. Those I really hate. It's my main reason for not liking Star Trek Discovery.
Next up is a double episode back on Earth at Starfleet HQ. They're much better, and on the main story arc too!
