"Well, It's like the turtle's been on a long journey and.." The shrink giggled at his notes "Hey what are you writing?"
He flipped a new page over a crude cartoon axe-wielding Bart standing atop a pile of bloody coworkers. "What?"
Archemodius, look at this. It's a talking turtle! Hey turtle, how come you can talk?
Never mind that. Poseidon is really pissed at you guys. You have all kinds of nice stuff, but do you pay any attention to the gods? No. You guys are going to sink.
But what can we do?
You got an in with anybody? Zeus? Apollo? Athena? I didn't think so. Get ready for a watery domicile.
@whknott ... It's been ages now after creeping coastlines stopped shrinking the continent and squeezed populations to climb higher as cities on the edge propped new on top of old, then layered it again.
Solid ground is well below the water-veined rubble, and transport was literally grown to give us ways to move. The carbon shell of the new Tuttle fleet scoots along on lab-raised motormeat flippers, and speed is not part of the equation in this part of the century.

Global warming erased most of the world's civilization. But while this city may look like a thing from renaissance, this is in fact the most modern city in the world. High tech's there, but under the hood. Evolution stopped a few centuries ago, so people had to take it's place and that's why you see giant turtles like this one. They're 100% mutant turtles (adults, of course), and they're better than boats… #WritingPrompt

At the Council of Vadodara they discussed the coming war. Looking out on the Dancing Sea, Jolon da Rajkot spoke, "The Jalan Bani king Ashoka of the Vast is expanding his reach and he threatens our kingdom. We are weak and unprepared. Ashoka will attack by sea. We've called for aid but none answered. I prayed to the Turtle god Kurma, but I fear he will not come; we have not paid him proper homage."
A watchman ran into the council hall, “Wave upon wave! Kurma is true; he comes!”
@whknott Despite his best efforts, Seymour the Immortal Tortoise could not make it past the Gates of Happenstance guarding the home of Chaos. Whom he dated. Until Chaos' father got wind of the whole thing.
@whknott Across the Mardan Empire, peace reigned. Theirs was a culture of great thinkers & explorers who built all of the great cities & sailed the mighty seas. Their astronomers charted the heavens as their physicists dug into the very nature of matter. It was a majestic culture lasting thousands of years.
Ta'ku, leader of the Terrapin Nation, disturbed by reports of poaching, illegal mining, & rumors of an alien base deep underwater below her subjects, swam to warn Mardan & plead for aid.
