"A series of prominent British artists, cartoonists and illustrators have pledged to create artworks in British asylum centres after Robert Jenrick, the UK’s immigration minister, ordered Home Office staff to destroy murals designed to create a welcoming atmosphere at a UK detention centre."

The U.K. government is being taken to court, by the firefighters, to stop them housing asylum seekers on a prison barge that has been described, by the firefighters, as a potential deathtrap.
If you're tuning in to this story from outside the U.K., I don't know what to tell you. It is as crazed and dangerous as it sounds. Just search for 'Bibby Stockholm' and get ready for an avalanche of WTF.
🚨BREAKING: Two cruise ships set to house 1,000 migrants have not been able to dock in the UK and have had to return to the company that owns them. (Sky News)
The boats were refused permission to dock at Liverpool and Edinburgh.

#RefugeesWelcome
I have to say I'm not a fan of this ongoing rehabilitation of Theresa May. With the notable exception of Andrew Rawnsley's review of her book, everywhere else seems to be lapping up the "confronting injustice" bullshit.
""I've always said immigration is good for the country."
Theresa May to Ruth Davidson on Times Radio, yesterday.
This you, Theresa? #UKPolitics#ReputationWashing#RefugeesWelcome#Immigration
UK. Home Secretary Suella Braverman is to give a speech today in which she will argue that giving asylum to refugees on the basis they fear persecution over their sexuality in their home country is a major reason why there has been an upsurge in asylum applications.
To put this into context, there were 74,751 asylum applications (relating to 89,398 people) in the UK in 2022 and just 2% of those cited sexual orientation.
In a crowded field, yesterday's "Tory Fuckwit of the Day" goes to Anna Firth, for her contribution to last night's debate on the Immigration Bill:
"We should all take pride in the UK's rich history of rehoming some of the world's most vulnerable and desperate people. We've heard from the minister today, reminding us that the UK has taken in over 550mn refugees since 2015".
UK population: 67mn.
Form an orderly queue to correct the record 🤦♀️🙄 #UKPolitics#RefugeesWelcome#FuckTheTories

Start your engines: every Tory who's after Sunak's job post-election is jumping on the "ECHR is to blame for us being shit" bandwagon.
The Times: "Ben Wallace: Human rights laws are protecting terrorists
Ex-defence secretary attacks ‘lunacy’ of legislation such as the ECHR that prevents the UK carrying out raids abroad to capture suspects" https://archive.ph/8Qwjh #UKPolitics#ECHR#RefugeesWelcome#HumanRights

The Met are now attempting to kettle the protesters. Multiple arrests have already been made.
