I found out yesterday that my contract was terminated, effective immediately. This was incredibly surprising and heartbreaking, but I'm focused on the future!

If anyone knows of any software development jobs focused on #Golang, #Python, #ReactJS or #NextJS, hit me up! I'm pretty urgently searching.

Hey Fediverse, I'm looking for my next role as a engineer!

What I'm looking for:

I'm the Lead "Frontend" engineer who creates table indexes because "the UI is slow".

Point me to a mountain and I'll climb it.

Prior experience with . I've dabbled with for fun, and in a past life.

Appreciate any advice or connections!

If there was an element that changes it's content when users interact with other elements on the page, what name would it have?

PLEASE NOTE: I am not suggesting that this element needs to exist; I am only asking what it would be called. I'm building a CustomElement, I just want it to have a name that makes sense.

Vote and suggest others in replies. Please boost for reach!

Are there any good Javascript libraries for working with ActivityPub? Need something for an upcoming project. Will be used with NextJS.

codybrom, to programming

Anyone know of any good ActivityPub packages for #nodeJS or #nextJS?

I want to bring AP updates to a static/serverless site hosted on Vercel. Nothing out there seems to quite fit the bill, or requires an amount of tinkering that currently goes over my head.

Open to any and all guides or suggestions!

node people - do I really need to use Reactisms to use NextJS?

Edit: For context, decades of experience programming but coming back to node after a long time. Also, not really a fan of React.

I deployed the new search experience I've been building on Hardcover yesterday 🥳

This will lower our search costs from $400/month (Algolia) to $70/month (Typesense Cloud)!

There's still more to clean it up and improve results, but this was a huge change. Trying to optimize the React to prevent re-renders has been a little tough too 😅

Any feedback on search is welcome!

Ready to take your Drupal decoupling game to the next level?

Join us for a deep dive into leveraging Handlebars, a lightweight JavaScript templating tool, to create decoupled menus easily in decoupled, headless, or progressive decupled applications with Marcelo Vani.

In this session, we'll walk you through a live demonstration of implementing a decoupled Admin toolbar using Handlebars in three simple steps. Say goodbye to complex package management and compilation headaches – Handlebars streamline the process, making it accessible to developers of all skill levels.

Following this, we will have a project showcase and a story from a group of Suffolk local residents with various skills and enthusiasm. They have completed three innovative local history projects using Drupal with plenty of public involvement and praise from respected local historians and local history groups: StreetStroll, Our Fallen and SkyLine. Hear more from Joe Thompson about the importance of the projects and how Drupal has helped with these exciting and impactful projects.

☢️ If you're building on Next.js, get out while you can. One point of failure, Big VC Opensource Energy.

They're already pulling the rug on different parts of its framework, making them only feasible on Vercel.

Extreme conflict on interests.

Small revenues to justify those expensive engineers and devrel.

They're chockholding the React community, like Meta wasn't bad enough already.

Trying to be the AWS of React isn't a good look tbh.

Looking for some feedback from folks.. I'm experimenting with migrating a project to Astro. On paper, the site is a great candidate - content-focused (blog, articles) looking for lighter client experience and better dev experience. https://astro.build/

I have a CMS wired up and have started migrating a couple React components. What gotchas are hiding deeper in this project? Where are the common pitfalls with Astro?

(🚀 appreciated)

Weekend project: learning how #ActivityPub works to (hopefully) replicate how the WordPress plugin allows blogs to be federated, but for #nextjs webapps / blogs.

So far, it looks like it needs:

  • A database where to store follower connections, so we can send them activities
  • A POST endpoint for the inbox (to accept follow requests)
  • A GET endpoint for the outbox (to do server-to-server federation when publishing a post)

😎#nextjs apps in @socketruntime just work without any modification. Amazing considering how painful nextjs is to use outside of the vercel cloud. So — one codebase gives you a web app and a native app for every desktop and mobile OS.

📝 Why You Should Write Your Own Static Site Generator
@arne

「 When Vercel released Next.js 14 recently, some friends I've talked to where still on Next.js 12 and really felt the pressure to upgrade to not fall behind even more. This made me think about the longevity and robustness of my website and so I decided I don't want to depend on other people's decisions and run after version upgrades I don't care about 」

I'm not talking about the blogposts, Remix is just lashing out while having its own set of problems.

Pretty they would act the same if they could.

With Remix you may as well roll your own framework given how things are under VC/Corporate frameworks lately, specially niche "opensourcy" ones.

Looks like the new Warhammer site is on NextJS, which is kinda nice, but my word... that massive chonk of initial state!

The combined catalogues is great, and it looks quite nice. It would be quite nice if they figured out subdomains instead of all the separate domains I keep forgetting.

Great little announcement video too... 😄
