Google admits Chrome Incognito mode tracks users — what you need to know
"For those that are fed up with #Chrome and are looking for a more privacy-focused alternative, you might want to consider #Brave or, if you have the technical know-how, #Tor."
Can confirm. Brave is significantly more privacy-focused than any of the other #Chromium alternatives.
If you're not using an adblocker, whether at the DNS level, as system software, or as a browser plugin (or even a multilayered combination), WHY THE HELL NOT!?
@trib@Fury Let’s not forget #Brave in the list of secure browsers!
I actually had a lot of fun a couple years ago deploying PiHole on one of my RaspberryPi’s and routing all my household machines through it. It worked great UNTIL.. my kid was turning in empty homework on Google Classroom and his teachers were getting up him about it. We chastised him thinking it was his fault until I finally discovered that Pihole was messing up his uploads to GC and literally causing this problem. I got super angry with it and walked away without even trying to troubleshoot. Had to profusely apologise not only to his teachers but to him.
Have not as yet tried #PrivacyBadger. Maybe later today. The logo for it has a real dodgy expression on the badger’s face IMO 😏
I deleted Twitter ages ago and refuse to create a new account even to see posts there. Nitter Redirect is a free Chrome extension that will redirect Twitter links to Nitter, which is "a free and open source alternative Twitter front-end focused on privacy and performance."
I had a longer discussion with @pojntfx about this last year.
If I remember correctly, the only "acceptable" Browser left was #Mozilla's #Firefox, at least for non-#RottenApple systems.
@mina
Uih, new profile pic, had to look 2x to recognize you.
"Tbh: I don't think, it is a good idea to give people no choice. "
Agree 100%.
However, what I took from the discussions, and I liked #Opera more, is that if #Google is under the hood--run!
True for #Brave, too, alas.
There is nothing major left to turn to, alas.
@nixCraft Although I use @mozilla Firefox, I would argue that @brave out of the box has better privacy defaults and the scammy crypto features are not enabled by default.
I would love to be shown another cross platform browser (besides Tor) that has better privacy defaults than #Brave.
This is because we often need to recommend software to our normie friends who will be deterred from migratung if they are required to tweak settings, install addons, etc.
Brave is a free and open source browser. It blocks web advertisements and website trackers automatically by default, but because it’s built on the same Chromium underpinnings as Chrome, everything just works.
I recently swapped out #Firefox to replace #Brave as my secondary browser on MaCoS* and replaced Brave as my primary browser on Windows - and I agree - no muss, no fuss.
THE C.E.O. CREATED JAVASCRIPT AND CO-FOUNDED MOZILLA BEFORE THE TURN OF THE MILLENNIUM
Reasons NOT to use Brave:
You feel that you should brigade against, and steadfastly refuse to use an app created by a tech mensch simply because they have beliefs that differ from yours, where those beliefs don't negatively impinge on any of the talents they applied to their creation
Most disappointing about Vlad's response on behalf of #Kagi#Brave is not seeing the clash with their pretend-mission of "humanizing the web".
You can't do that while pretending ethics aren't part of it. Or by defending your business relationship with someone who denies basic human rights to some.
Amorality in tech is not a "principled position", much less the only one. And looking at the people who come out in support for your position should tell you something.
@mbootsman Dat valt me toch weer tegen.
I fully intend to continue to use #Brave as my primary browser. Because when it boils down to it, in a technology sense, the fact that someone invented javascript plays into things far more significantly than whether or not they personally don’t believe that honeymoons should involve swordfights. These bullshit witch-hunts need to stop. Just because someone has a different set of morals and values doesn’t mean their software is any less secure or performant or that it is somehow designed to catastrophically compromise your online security if it magically detects that you disagree with them.
#Firefox itself was called on to be boycotted and the pitchforks/torches brigade were fully behind that until #Eich resigned. He threw a measly thousand bucks into something he believed in. And now he’s not there, it’s cool cool cool to use FF again. Did his beliefs make FF a worse technology? Does it for Brave? Jesus Christ, gimme a fucking break. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2014/04/04/mozilla-ceo-resignation-free-speech/7328759/
So #Kagi is now partnering with #Brave, i.e. the company of Brendan Eich, who has been CEO at Mozilla for eleven days before he had to leave due to massive criticism of his homophobic views. Brave's most well-known product is a browser with its own cryptocurrency, co-designed by Eich.
A feedback post asking Kagi to reconsider has been closed by Kagi's founder Vladimir Prelovac because "Considering company x founder political views is not a factor in [their] evaluation".
uBlacklist - a browser add-on for Chrome, Firefox, and Safari to block websites and entire domains from search results on Google, Bing, Brave, DuckDuckGo, Ecosia, Qwant, Searx, Startpage.com, and more.
I donate to Mozilla every month and will continue to do so, regularly.
The story making its rounds on Mastodon and the Fediverse, is one that was often shared on Twitter, by haters of Mozilla and Firefox. By a "libertarian" with both a political and personal agenda.
Pay it no mind, it is the same nonsense every year. 🙄
This is music by Michal Divis (Dreamer album) in the style of #djent. This player is unfortunately still experiencing connectivity issues. It is you who can help!
Thanks for being here and watching my channel. I'll be in touch again.
Unfortunately, Michal's player is still very slow. If you want to help, install the #Brave web browser on your desktop computer and open the address below on your local #IPFS instance:
