I have this memory of drinking frozen OJ growing up. It came in a little paper cylinder, and you put it in a pitcher and added water then stirred and it was orange juice. There was apple juice too...
Is that a thing anymore? What the heck was the frozen juice thing about. I can't even find it anymore.
@futurebird
I remember ruining those as a kid when I wanted something sweet... theyre basically delicious fruity popsicles that your mom really doesnt appreciate being left open and with teeth marks in the freezer
Another downside of life in "the glovebox" ... I bet they have it at bogopa, though I haven't been over there for a bit since I got obsessed with creamtop milk.
@futurebird
it definitely existed; as a kid I'd often eat it frozen with a spoon, and as recently as 2018 I bought some to try that again (Unfortunately it seems the insides of my cheeks can no longer tolerate the much higher levels of acidity in frozen concentrated juices). Now I'm tempted to add it to my grocery list and look for it next time I go.
@futurebird Absolutely still around and still very significant since it's very compact to ship and store, and obviously has a very long shelf life when frozen. Lots of versions now, including various of the originals.
They're not me, to the best of my own self knowledge, but this has the flavor of encountering a childhood neighbor after you've both moved, independently, to an entirely different country
@futurebird yep, we had Minute Maid or Donald Duck brand OJ from concentrate when I was growing up. I think you can still find Minute Maid in the frozen aisles of some grocery stores, but I think you have to hunt around for it.
@futurebird yes! it's used in a bunch of mixed drinks and also in fruit punch.
(It's also the FCOJ on the commodities board in the movie Trading Places, which is a pretty silly joke but testifies to how ubiquitous it was for a while there I guess xD )
EDIT: Or apparently it actually IS a commodity (as another commenter informed me) and somehow that's even more hilarious xD
@futurebird I was telling my daughter about this the other day! It was best straight from the freezer mixed in the blender. Then it would get foamy.
It's also still traded on the commodities exchanges!
