We should really keep track of this proposal in North Carolina to ban masks which can include protests, and intentionally blocking traffic during demonstrations.

It should remind us of the Hong Kong anti-mask law which was explicitly used to quell Hong Kong protests (that was ultimately ruled unconstitutional by HK High Court).

Microsoft App Assure helps Opera build Arm-optimized browser.

“App Assure engineers worked directly with Opera’s engineering team, offering technical assistance and guidance. It quickly became apparent that both teams had a similar take on strong signals reflecting growing industry awareness of the performance and efficiency benefits offered by Arm devices.”

British architecture studios Nex and Donald Insall Associates renovated this neo-gothic Exeter College Library at the University of Oxford, originally constructed by George Gilbert Scott in 1857.

For some reason there has been a lot of recent interest in a blog post I wrote about VB6 and XML 3 circa 2007.

I genuinely feel awful that somewhere in the world that kind of blog post is helpful in the year of our Lord 2024.

  • "The multi-level apartment building is located in Philadelphia's Fishtown neighbourhood, a transitioning area that has been attracting creative types and urban professionals."*

This is a beautiful building, but I cannot help but translate the term "transitioning area" into gentrification.

This is genuinely an important question, the open web is certainly worth saving, and I for one do think about how every task I take on might contribute to or reverse those problems. I assume we need more compassionate people at big corps, not less.

The problems no amount of compassion seem to be able to assuage include the way the entire system is corrupt and the way all our taxes are used to support an empire that turns a blind eye to poverty and supports genocide.

A brief but important reminder that .NET 7 goes out of support today. ⚠️

If like me you were using the .NET 6 LTS, that goes out of support later this year in November.

I recently upgraded my main projects to .NET 8 to ensure I get the latest security & quality of life fixes. 🎉

Bird watching at the Glacier Ridger Columbus Metro Parsk was so much fun (even in high winds). Today's sightings include:

  • Pileated Woodpecker
  • Eastern Towhee
  • Chimney Swift

The Pileated Woodpecker was noisy with a glorious bright red crest, just a gorgeous bird!

I could not do any of this identification without the Merlin bid id app, it is fantastic for a newbie like me.

Random things I do not know about our solar system.

  • Are the planets spinning round the sun in the same direction?
  • Are all the planets spinning around the same line of the sun, equivalent to the equator on earth. Or is that just convenient for illustration?
  • Does the Asteroid belt imply just that? Meaning it does not surround the entire solar system or is it a belt of finite height.
