Me: No idea, I've never done it before.
PM: Well what's your estimate?
Me: Any estimate would be useless because I've no idea what difficulties I'll encounter.
PM: But I need to put a number on the plan. How about 15 days?
Me: Sure, why not? Let's also estimate I'll grow wings and complete this project while flying.

ME: 18 months, here's a detailed schedule.
CEO: That's too long, it needs to be done in 12 months.
[...a week later...]
ME: I can do it in 12 months if you assign a particular developer EJW to my team; here's a detailed schedule assuming that.
CEO: OK [does not assign EJW to my team]

CEO: This was supposed to be done in 12 months. You were 50% late.

A majority of the Supreme Court -- including the "justice" whose wife actively participated in the 2020 insurrection -- rewrote the 14th Amendment. They removed essentially all penalties for federal office holders who participate in attempts to overthrow elections.

Banana Republicans are consistently winning, and they see the finish line in November.

Maybe we should be emphasizing the importance of showing up to vote blue down-ticket even for those who feel they cannot support Biden. Once they're in the voting booth we can hope they change their minds on that. But for that to happen they first have to show up.

The always tricky problem of charging your cleaning robots was solved by the combination of the new perovskite solar panels (able to generate power from indoor lighting) and a neural network trained on the sleeping behaviour of cats (find the best sunny spot to charge).

Or, it was, until the cats worked out they could sleep all day on the solar panels and have the robot keep them in the sunny spot for as long as its battery lasted.

The CEO of Exxon just said "we've waited too long" to tackle climate change. He blames "society" and "activists".

Yes, Exxon. Yes, Exxon. Yes, Exxon: the corporation that for decades has been spending millions to slow progress on climate change, despite its own research showing the problem was urgent.

    He said:

"We've waited too long to open the aperture on the solution sets in terms of what we need, as a society, to start reducing emissions.... Frankly, society, and the activist — the dominant voice in this discussion — has tried to exclude the industry that has the most capacity and the highest potential for helping with some of the technologies."

What is this — some sort of dark, twisted joke?

And if I take your shit and sell it, that's copyright violation and it's bad.

Wait till they learn that an embryo/fetus is an illegal alien:

It is not a citizen -- the first sentence of the 14th Amendment vests the right to citizenship at birth.

So if (as they say) an embryo/fetus is a person, then it is an alien person; and having no documentation such as a visa or a green card, it is an illegal alien.

I'm old enough to remember when a state-resident student could earn enough in a summer to pay for tuition at a good school.

UCLA 1974-5 undergraduate annual tuition and fees:
    $ 625.50 state resident
    $ 2125.50 out-of-state

Higher education should be available free or nearly free to anyone capable of pursuing it. Student loans are inherently predatory.

Take the time to watch this short video of an American Nazi rally at NYC Madison Square Garden in 1939. It is chilling. You need to understand that modern fascism is on the rise here.

    https://anightatthegarden.com/

The new fascists aren't as cartoonish as the ones in the film, nor quite as regimented (yet). But they are deadly serious.

They believe they are approaching the finish line, when they will take control of everything.

    We can't let them succeed.

This is a rather chilling mashup of audio and video of a protester being thrown out of a 2016 Trump rally, and a protester being thrown out of the 1939 Nazi Bund rally at Madison Square Garden.

In this video, Fritz Kuhn watches from the podium as Isador Greenbaum is thrown out of the 1939 rally.

Trump also had a protester thrown out of one of his 2016 rallies: "I'd like to punch him in the face, I'll tell ya!"

People don't understand what money is. Some people gain advantage by tricking those people into thinking governments "borrow."

Government debt is simply a measure of how much money is circulating. Govts spend money into the economy, taxes take it out.

Taxes do not "fund" spending. Taxes are not "revenue." Taxes remove currency from circulation.

In the USA "paying off the national debt" would mean taxing $30 trillion out of the economy. How do you think that would work out?

I think most people agree that the Central Bank can create money.

So then why is it such a stretch for them to accept the idea that a commercial bank, which operates under a franchise issued by the Central Bank, can do the same, as authorized by regulations established by the Central Bank?

I wonder if some states impose additional banking regulations beyond what's required by the Fed; maybe our accountant works in such a state?
