Got tired of having this conversation over and over again so I just spent way too long making this:

This actually comes from railroad workers talking in comments on a fb group. I just made the meme for them.

They were like "those trolley memes are stupid, we have to do this in our railyard like once a week when some intermodal runs loose."

Wow look it's exactly what happened when we got rid of the streetcars. Aged extremely well

People complain about buses and bikes and pedestrians and all sorts of shit but I can't help but notice that 99% of the time I stop my car, I'm behind another car

Seeing a lot of people saying things like "why don't Americans protest more." I'm not exactly sure how to respond because:

  1. In 2020 America had the largest sustained series of protests in world history. Americans protest plenty.

  2. American activists are shot by police at a very high rate. Don't forget this.

Americans protest at a very high rate already. We don't protest more because so many of us have been murdered and our police are very dangerous. Hope this helps.

"Why don't Americans protest more" my brother in christ, we live in a police state

I masked for years when I was working around toxic dust, when none of my coworkers did and many of them teased me about it. Some of them now have weird miner lung diseases. This is not from West Virginia in the 30's, this is from a job at a hipster company featured in Martha Stewart's magazine. I started working there in 2008.

I am absolutely used to catching shit for being the only person in the room masked against the thing that is killing us.

It's a weird thing to be used to.

#UPS caved on the strike!

  • Full time UPS drivers are about to get $49/hr

  • Existing part-time workers will receive a 48 percent average total wage increase over the next five years.

  • Everyone is on the same seniority scale now, no more two-tier wage system

-"Overall, more than 60 total changes and improvements to the National Master Agreement — more than any other time in #Teamsters history — and zero concessions from the rank-and-file."

What an absolute shocker that the fediverse would be hit with massive waves of spam right after threads started federating

sidereal, to random
@sidereal@kolektiva.social avatar

"Come to the fediverse! Everyone can run their own server!" is starting to sound more and more like "everyone can grow their own food!" or "everyone can make their own clothing." Like. Some people can do these things. Not everyone has the knowledge, resources, and/or time.

OMG this is the most Bellevue thing I've seen since someone was tagging "Bellevue Wives Matter" in 2020.

The world economy never recovered from Covid. - “Britain sank into recession this week. So did Japan, with its decline so bad that it lost its spot as the world’s No. 3 economy.”

“It is increasingly apparent that the world economy is showing some of the chronic weakness we associate with long COVID. It appears the pandemic left some deep wounds in the economy – something few economists saw coming.” - https://www.theglobeandmail.com/business/commentary/article-global-economy-covid-19-pandemic/

@_L1vY_ @Brad I guess this is like my chronic illness privilege showing because I've been going to the doctor's office more frequently than once a month this whole time, since before covid. So I've had like a front row seat to watching things collapse in real-time. Things which used to be simple and routine are now like pulling teeth because EVERYWHERE is understaffed. Every clinic, every pharmacy, every specialists' office. Chronic lack of doctors, nurses, even admin staff, at all levels.

"73% of organizations reported challenges getting workers to return to the workplace."

"Seventy-one percent of employers that are mandating their on-site work policy reported difficulty retaining workers"

This genie is never going back into the bottle. In the 1950's people dreamed of a future of remote office work. Then they designed computers to make it happen. People always wanted this, we were just shamed for saying it.

I just realized that I've been using adblock so consistently, for so long, that I have basically no idea what the average person's experience of the internet is like.

Every now and then I use someone else's device that isn't so locked down. And I'm floored by how useless and annoying the internet is. IDK how people do this.

Heyyy I know everyone has a lot of shit going on right now but can we get some financial help (or a boost!) for a comrade in need? Ben is a real one, at once a working farmer, EMT, and revolutionary, and he's been dealing with some intense shit lately https://www.gofundme.com/f/emergency-medical-fund-for-ben-and-lebowski

Does anyone have any experience in trying to provide free wifi for houseless encampments?

A bunch of people at one encampment around here are really only a few blocks away from a library with public wifi. I'm wondering if there's some way to extend the library's wifi with a directional antenna or something (with the library's permission, of course) but I don't actually know much about this sort of thing.

Anyone got any pointers or thoughts to get me started?

If I've learned one thing from covid it's that apparently the vast majority of orgs and people in this society do not plan anything more than about six weeks into the future

If you’re in the Seattle area get down to UW, there’s a pretty hairy free Palestine protest going on. They’re occupying campus buildings and shit. Pigs on the way

I have voted consistently in every election for my entire life and from my perspective it hasn’t helped much.

To be blunt, the rowdy shit I have done felt way more effective because it WAS way more effective.

Vote if you want but please stop scolding people about it. I’ve been voting this whole time. Will you meet me halfway and revolt? Will you meet me halfway and do some illegal shit to get us all more freedom?

My new hobby is getting in touch with the landlords of units I have no intention of renting and haggling them down on the rent purely to neg them.

"Nice unit, I'd like to tour it. According to my records, it's been on the market for almost a year now, was rented last month, and is now open again. So what's wrong with it? And given this context, why would I want to pay more than [3/4ths the advertised rent]"

It is worth it for the free sodium 😂

The social version of “you are closer to being a a homeless person than to being a billionaire” is “we are closer to the middle ages than we are to the star trek future.”
