It is simply not possible to evacuate over one million people in 24 hours from the zone of attack in Gaza. The answer to horrific atrocities by Hamas cannot be collective punishment upon an entire population, 50 percent of which are children.

He hadn't planned it would cost him such visible losses but the rest is working according to plan.

Good grief. In the light of #LaurenceFox's comments on #GBNews, #Sky #News decided to do a piece on the #GenderPayGap. They had a man and woman on to argue about it.

It came out, live on air, that he was being paid and she wasn't. Sky apologised and offered her £75, the standard fee for such an appearance. Then they offered to increase it to £200, the same as they'd paid him.

@RPBook I absolutely love her infectious joyous energy saying 'are you getting paid for this?', because really, that's a lethal blow, AND by its content AND by the way it is being delivered. Had she said it angrily, we would have seen an entirely different media response ("typical angry black woman with lesbian tendencies, proves our point etc... deflect & redirect).

I'd really like to devote much less of my precious time to figuring out - from scraps of disjointed data published all over the got-dam-everywheres - what level of danger I am in from this completely UNMANAGED #Covid infection free-for-all.

This is a daily cost for me & sucks up time that could go towards others - my family & my society - or my wallet.

But I was infected in Feb 2020 & am still suffering daily from ongoing symptoms. I can't afford to catch it again.

Ideas for better systems:

@chargrille I was infected 3 times (incl. Jan 2020), also have + now new disease. The is clear: increases chances of worsening & I can't afford it either. Your options: no indoor restaurants/pubs/bars ever, which can be VERY complicated to socially navigate in the winter, basically . I managed to explain the concept of the to friends & family, but it is still a strain. Better system? public communication.

@jeffowski I can't believe most of the comments, saying 'it wasn't intentional'. Sofware names are very carefully chosen. Product managers haven't intentionally used a female name in a derogatory way, they (and we know for a fact THEY were men) had the #unconsciousbias that an assistant should be a woman, and that bias is born from, hum... what is that called again in the #Barbie movie.... ah yeah, #patriarchy. If you don't believe our current society is patriarchal, go back to Barbie.

We keep hearing leaders talking about preventing the next pandemic. But I will only believe that policymakers are serious about preventing the next pandemic when they show that they are taking active steps to stop the current ongoing pandemic. #CovidIsNotOver

@luckytran it’s a losing battle. I am part of a patient program for#longcovid and no one wears masks, incl. In busy gym where rehab takes place, no masks on peak time public transport home. I feel like I am the alien, the insane one, like the science on #reinfection was never published.

Russell Brand has said that YouTube’s decision to demonetise him is in the ‘context of the Online Safety Bill’.

While ORG has concerns about the Bill’s powers for censorship and surveillance, it’s misleading to blame a Bill that's not yet received Royal Assent for this decision.

Interesting piece by Carole #Cadwalladr on Yanis #Varoufakis’s latest book, “Technofeudalism: what killed capitalism”.

Maybe #Technofeudalism is its latest reincarnation rather than the end of #Capitalism, but a good term nonetheless to describe our age. Just a shame that neither Varoufakis nor Cadwalladr seem to have made it to #Mastodon yet (maybe not even left #X? I don’t know) - maybe soon

If you’re going to interview Donald Trump, you had better be prepared to fact check him in real time. Our media does a terrible job of allowing him to spew falsehoods and spread conspiracies without calling him out on them. This is not the time to platform Trump like he is some regular politician. He is an existential threat to our democracy, including to institutions such as the free press. Do better.

@georgetakei #factchecking would in fact be a complete communications disaster for the Opposition. Since 2016, everyone has been saying #Trump has ushered in the #PostTruth era. He has shaped a culture where truth is inconsequential. Truth is not a social connector, a hallmark of character or leadership anymore. What matters are emotions, ideally reptilian ones (fear, anger, adoration). He defines the rules of the game. Either you beat him at his own game, or you are out.

Last year, the gallery had dropped their 30-year sponsorship with #BP after intense #climate campaigning. However Bank of America has an appalling #emissions record, as the 4th-largest global investor in fossil fuels ($232bn between 2016-21). No more brand laundering through #art #patronage!

    Can a doctor like @luckytran @chrischirp tell me whether I am sentenced to wearing a #mask indoors for the rest of my life, being a #longcovid sufferer, and never ever eating in an indoor #restaurant again? How isolating this is, causing #anxiety, #alienation, I cannot overstate, and it's like choosing between life #disability or early #alzheimer & thinning grey matter through lack of #socialisation. Is there ever a cure for #viraldiseases? Is there research on #ART for #covid?

    @alkatandan I keep thinking of the closing scene of 'Don't Look Up', where Jonah Hill is still trying to livestream to a dead world. It seems advertisers are as tonedeaf. I am not sure I am in the minority anymore. Here in the UK, talking about the weather has been a national sport forever, and now when i overhear smalltalk about the weather, summer etc, EVERYONE talks about the fires, how dark it is in the UK but maybe it's better to stay put. All classes, ages. Quite remarkable. #climatediary

    at my mother-in-laws making tea just now and really like her Tea Rations tea caddy and all the instructions on it. Fully struck again that maybe this is what we need, a full mode-switch to war like emergency - this kind of messaging from government, what we also had for . libertarians won’t like it but it’s not that hard and 70% of us do go along with what we are told
