If you’re going to interview Donald Trump, you had better be prepared to fact check him in real time. Our media does a terrible job of allowing him to spew falsehoods and spread conspiracies without calling him out on them. This is not the time to platform Trump like he is some regular politician. He is an existential threat to our democracy, including to institutions such as the free press. Do better.
When did fact checking in journalism become the exception to the rule? It seems like fact checking these days is an 'extra' for news organisations. That wasn't always the case.

We do not need to reward bad behavior with airtime...
@georgetakei They could have cut the interview before broadcast in segments and say we must inform our viewers that president trump said blah blah and there is no evidence … or the facts are .., We cannot allow politicians to take over our news media.

@georgetakei Trump poses more of a challenge to democracy than a threat. Fact-checking him in real-time won't do any good, except perhaps restoring some credibility in the media.
@georgetakei because news organizations are no longer getting money directly from their audience (such as news paper sales decades ago) they’re no longer focused on doing solid reporting. They are only interested in creating enough views to sell ads. That’s it. The only way we change that is to vote with our views and move our eyeballs elsewhere.
@georgetakei The CNN interview / town hall with baby Donald a while back and Kaitlin Collins as the moderator was very good. She DID throw facts right back at him and I thought she did a good job disclaiming his lies. BTW - there were also maybe two questions asked the entire town hall because Kaitlin kept baby Don so busy.
@georgetakei The media is only interested in clicks and ads/commercial revenue due to ratings. That is why they bring Trump Trump Trump. This is always a guarantee that clicks skyrocket.
The media is addicted to ad clicks like drug abusers to the needle.
The GOP, and especially Trump, play on this keyboard perfectly. The same for all right-wing trolls on Twitler.
With out clicks-addicted media back in time Nixon would have remained president and the WaPo would have been named "globalist".
