Just to balance things out, tell me an artist, that as far as you know, seems to be a decent person, as well as a great artist!

School staff maintains a few little gardens outside one of the buildings. This morning I walked past the head chef as he was hauling a big handful of leafy greens back to the kitchen. The air was positively thick with the glorious scent of fresh basil. What a beautiful way to start the day!

From our trip to Maine four years ago. Yes, I waited until we were at the southernmost tip of Bar Island before getting this screenshot. And yes, I am a child.

Sharing on behalf of a friend in the Philadelphia, PA area: “A friend of mine is selling his stunning harpsichord, which was previously played by the famous Robert Smith. Do you know anyone who is the market for purchasing one? It is on consignment, but a sale can be arranged outside of that.”

If you’re interested, I’ll put you in touch.

This is precisely the kind of LP I hope to find when I go scrounging through the cheap bins in record stores! It’s a compilation by K-Tel from 1974, and like most of its ilk, it’s a contemporaneous look at pop music from that year. I think of it like a core sample from the arctic that shows what the atmosphere was like millennia ago. In this case, it’s songs that were popular at least for a short time, but may not have stood the test of time. I eat this stuff up! #Vinyl #Vintage #KTel

I found this a couple of years ago, but neglected to note who said it or where it came from, so apologies to the original author. Still, it sums things up pretty well for me:

“Solitude is like oxygen for me; it's a must. I love connecting with people, but I love reconnecting with myself even more. Getting back in flow with my own rhythm, my true and authentic self without anyone else's energy influencing me. It's never personal, it's self care.”

A new birding store recently opened up in my town. Yesterday they sent an email announcing their weekly Small Flock Hours. Every Sunday they block off an hour and a half for low-sensory and accessible shopping. This is precisely the kind of thing that needs to be understood, valued, and implemented far and wide. What a fantastic idea!

Normalize using the lesser-known but perfectly acceptable counterparts of common words, all of which are in Merriam-Webster:

feckful, the opposite of feckless. "chiefly Scottish," but let's change that.

ruthful, the opposite of ruthless

trepid, the opposite of intrepid

@eribosot When asked “How are you” my standard answer has always been “Wonderless”.

At my in-laws’ house getting started on the long process of clearing it out. Found this gem from 1998 being used as a monitor stand. It’s about 2.5” (65mm) thick and holds dozens of literal bookmarks.

Side view to give some sense of scale to just how thick the book is.
Dozens of bookmarks visible along the top edge.

The Somerset Patriots is a minor league baseball team in north Jersey. For three games this summer they are changing their name to celebrate one the things for which is best known: The Jersey Diners. It’s a brilliant piece of marketing that I could not help but get behind. I ordered a cap and pin and they threw in a paper hat for free—just like the kind that is traditionally worn by diner staff. It’s also what their mascot wears (see my cap). Nice touch, folks!

Me wearing a baseball cap with a drawing of their mascot: a coffee cup with a smiling face and wearing a paper hat.

Trying to keep this hashtag going. It's easy to feel jaded with the way things are going politically. The violence in the world makes us feel helpless. Ineffective. I think what made social media such a great concept was how it brought people together to learn from one another. We can still do that.

If you know how to do something, teach us how! Pass down your knowledge. What you think is insignificant could make someone else's life easier!

@dancinyogi When you tie your shoes, make that first loop, then when you bring the shoelace around to make the second loop, bring it around twice, then finish the knot as usual. That will dramatically increase the amount of friction in the knot, making it nigh impossible to work itself loose. My college physics teacher taught us that and it has only let me down twice since then.
