Biden was “angry”, “heartbroken”, and “outraged” by the genocide of the Palestinian people as he sold weapons to Israel to carry out the genocide of the Palestinian people.

And that, there, is his difference, people. He cares. He’s compassionate. In fact, he’s likely the most caring and compassionate arms dealer to ever fund a genocide.

And they say he’s just as bad as the other guy.

Wow, I missed this... apparently a couple weeks ago a piece of (probably) the ISS crashed through someone's house in Florida?! And then they asked @planet4589 for help via twitter because they couldn't get NASA to respond to them?!! WOW.

Space law is going to be very "interesting" in the next couple years as exponentially increasing re-entries cause more damage/casualties on the ground...

"In 2021, Oregon became the first state to decriminalize drug possession. However, the state has recently faced a large rise in overdose deaths and had the second-highest rate of substance abuse disorder in the U.S., according to a 2023 audit report. "

Huh... maybe that was a bad idea after all.

Sounds great, assuming the people buying drugs want to participate in the rehab, counseling, medical attention, or job placement.

But what do you do about the people that won't participate in those things?

1dalm,
@1dalm@deacon.social avatar

@RL_Dane

So, basically the system we have now.

1dalm,
@1dalm@deacon.social avatar

@RL_Dane

It's not that hard for a public defender to negotiate rehab or something like that in exchange for a guilty plea for first time offenses. Most of the people locked up for drugs are on their second arrest.

Ultimately, I believe neither jail nor rehab does anything good at all because the problem is systemic not individualized. Drug abuse is just one of many many negative consequences of the collapse of social capital.

The best evidence I have for this is Alcoholic's Anonymous. AA is a very successful program for helping people stay sober as long as they are in the program because the program provides a supportive community that rewards positive choices. But, as soon as a person becomes disconnected from the community more often then not the person relapses almost immediately.

The answer to most of our social problems is IRL community.

Tell me a silly/funny childhood story!

I'll start:

One time in Sunday School, the teacher was talking about the difference between humans and animals, and mentioned that Animals had Tails and humans didn't. I let her know this was not true, because my Dad had a tail, just in the front, instead of the back. The teacher was silent for several seconds, and tried to correct me in a church appropriate way, but I doubled down, and insisted that my little brothers also had front tails too. This got so heated that the teacher had to go get my parents to take me out of Sunday School.

1dalm,
@1dalm@deacon.social avatar

@RickiTarr

I didn't remember this, but my aunt told me a story of when I was a toddler, I had gone to a public restroom at a park where we had our family reunion s alone without telling anyone. Of course, being a middle child, no one actually noticed I was missing for some extended period of time. When my aunt finally found me I was screaming in the bathroom, crying my eyes out, pleading "Will somebody come and wipe me?!"

Imagine an alternate reality where Steve Jobs never budged on allowing apps on the iPhone, but allowed people to jailbreak their phones as long as they took responsibility for it (like how some Chromebooks have a dev mode).

You'd have tons of fun little apps, and almost no of the app store. You'd also have a lot of great PWAs for those who never wanted to jailbreak their phones.

I don't miss the iPhone, but I absolutely miss the golden era (2008-2013ish) of the .

The #enshittification absolutely would still have happened without the App Store, and probably way worse. Do you remember Download(dot)com? Do you remember how literally every software product you wanted to install (whether downloaded or on physical media, purchased or not) tried to shove any number of dozens of adware/crapware software into you background apps?

@1dalm@deacon.social avatar

A feature of the #Episcopal Church I like that wasn't really present in any of my Evangelical churches I grew up in is the acknowledgement that human emotions are complicated and deserve recognition and communal processing. Today is #BlackFriday, for example. A day specifically set aside to recognize human feelings of pain and loss. This is very much at odds with last Sunday's Palm Sunday parade celebration and yesterday's anger and betrayal.

Human emotions are good.

#Trump’s Truth Social is now a public company. Experts warn its multibillion-dollar valuation defies logic

“Despite the late-day slide, Wall Street is still assigning Trump Media an eye-popping valuation of nearly $11 billion — a price tag that experts warn is untethered to reality.”
https://www.cnn.com/2024/03/26/markets/trump-media-stock-truth-social?cid=ios_app

1dalm,
@1dalm@deacon.social avatar

@GottaLaff

So, Wall Street artificially jacks up the price of Trump's social media site.

Trump uses the artificially inflated value to post bond.

Stock price collapses to a fraction of it's value upon the bond.

NY State collects worthless stock as payment for fine.

Is that how this works out?

Roller Skates are my favorite example of human brain plasticity. If someone handed you a pair of roller skates and told you what they planned to do it them, there would be no reason for you to believe that anything other than comedy and injuries would ensue if the fool was to actually try to put them on and roll around in them on concrete. But instead, after only about 15 minutes of trial and error the human brain says "Oh, cool. I get this now! I like this! This is very efficient!"

Roller skates prove how truly unbelievably capable human brains really are.

Like Donald #Trump, scandal followed Richard #Nixon throughout his political career.

Like Trump, Nixon positioned himself as the defender of the common person against the political elite.
Like Trump, Nixon made expansive claims of immunity.
And, like Trump, Nixon always managed to claw his way back into the political forefront.

But unlike Trump, Nixon acknowledged the fundamental importance of accountability in a democracy.

1dalm,
@1dalm@deacon.social avatar

@nicholas_saunders

I've definitely seen this on Mastodon and in my social media circles.

Anti-Zionism is anti-Semitism.

1dalm,
@1dalm@deacon.social avatar

@Jonricha @nicholas_saunders

Regarding “Anti-Zionism is anti-Semitism”: There are lots of Christian majority nations where Christians can confidently practice their religion without fear of persecution. There are plenty of Muslim majority nations where Muslim people can confidently practice their religion without fear of persecution. There are plenty of secular majority nations where people that don't affiliate with any religion can confidently life their lives without fear of persecution.

There is only one Jewish majority nation, and there are a lot of nations that want that one gone. Jewish people deserve a safe place in planet Earth to practice their religion too.

1dalm,
@1dalm@deacon.social avatar

@Jonricha @nicholas_saunders

Disagreement with, even condemnation of, the government action is not anti-Zionism. Anti-Zionism is the belief that a Jewish state shouldn't exist at all.

You didn't sound Anti-Zionist.

1dalm,
@1dalm@deacon.social avatar

@Jonricha @nicholas_saunders

Once kids aren't dying and the hostages are returned, right?

1dalm,
@1dalm@deacon.social avatar

@Jonricha @nicholas_saunders

And there in is the problem. The leaders of Israel are in power because they have declared themselves to be the only ones that can protect the Jewish people. The leaders of Hamas hold their positions because they have declared themselves to be the only ones that can protect the Palestinian people. Leaders throughout the middle east have used this conflict to entrench their own positions of power. Literally everyone involved has their own positions of authority and power invested in this conflict, which is why literally every single President since Eisenhower has failed to negotiate a two-state agreement. It's impossible to negotiate a solution because all the players don't want a solution, they want conflict.

Except for all the poor innocent regular people in the line of fire on both sides.

But all of that is besides the point of the original post.

Holding a position that the Jewish people don't have a right to one single place on Earth where they can practice their religion without persecution (aka "Anti-Zionism) is antisemitic.
